Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Tuvix would make earnest speeches about how Kate and Jeri and some plant matter needed to get into the transporter together because they were meant to be. .

I really like the sound of that :techman:

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Seems like an obvious joke to me

I agree. I mean, I wasn't there but previous behavior she LOVED playing match maker. I saw it in 2003 and 2006 and 2009 conventions.

I guess you had to be there. I don't think it was taken that way by anyone there, or the joke fell flat, because people were talking about it in an uncomplimentary way, and the questioner tweeted something like "didn't expect to have my whole relationship called into question by Janeway."

But it's been almost two years, so maybe my memory is obscured.

I also remember something that amused the heck out of me at the time... she was being interviewed, and the interviewer said something about the phasers, but calls them (I think) lasers, and she immediately corrects him... to "RAY GUNS." LOL.

Wow, she does say some antiquated things but this surprises me. But then again, I wasn't there :-)

poor Kate's memories are breaking down. She's forgetting she joked she had sex with a hologram to downright getting pissy about it, she called species 8472, 8417 and she never made that mistake, and she doesn't remember Jaffen at all but did in 2003.

Unlike a lot of con panelists her years since VOY have been full of other shows so I'm not surprised everything Star Trek isn't as vivid in her mind as before.

Plus, when you repeat the same stories over and over to a group of ... enthusiastic... people who are far more interested in recording and analyzing every detail of those stories than you ever will be, mistakes/omissions are bound to creep in to your narratives.

Kate has apologised in public on several occasions -some may argue it may not have conveyed in a heartfelt way, but she did all the same .
I do believe she is a conflicted soul in general-especially in reference to Jeri Ryan , but i think she is truly sorry for how it went and now that Ryan has taken the opportunity to add logs to already simming fire only continues to reharsh bitter tastes all round.

Mulgrew has been diplomatic and not addressed /responsed to it. I thought Ryans reference to her as "that person" was disrespectful - although i can understand she wanted it to not name her , when we all know it is Mulgrew she is referring to. It does puzzle me that 20+ years later having had another child and apparantly in a happy marriage she decides to dig up the almost dead soil and reharsh it all.. She clearly hasnt gotten over it and indeed hasnt gotten over Mulgrew .

I am not saying that Jeri is wrong for telling her side but surely during the period when it was most previant - where Mulgrew was addressing , could that not be the time when she should have aired her side of the story.?

I think Mulgrew is a consumate professional and i respect her work ethic , although not necessarily how she goes about achieving that , but you have to understand, she sweat blood and tears to get to a level whereby a female captain was beginning to be respected and i respect her immensely for what she bought to the table for over 40 years

I sincerely hope that Mulgrew would one day be the bigger person and extend a hand of friendship on a surprise con. That will be so beautiful. I know it will not happen, but it will be nice to watch that :)

It would certainly be interesting to see these two interact during a full-cast reunion for the VOY Blu-Ray sets IF that ever happens.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

^Wishful thinking. I bet my big toe nail:vulcan: that will not happen. Mulgrew and Ryan are destined to stay apart forever :(

I bet all the C/7 was up in arms when Mulgrew and Beltran appeared on two conventions together- Lucky B!stards:scream:

Regarding Mulgrew's reported slip ups: (I don't go to cons, so I have no firsthand knowledge)

Is it possible that she is experiencing the first symptoms of Alzheimer's? If so, I feel very badly for her. Hopefully, these are just brain farts, like we all have.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Nah-she's not. I'm forgetful and I'm 33. Stress, nutrition, lack of rest can factor. Busy lifestyle like hers would make anyone slip up. I believe it's like the other poster said that you slip up after constant interviews of the same stuff and fatigue. Those interviews can be at 3am!
I barely sleep. (Small child) and now I can,t remember episode titles :-) I snap my fingers. When I was a teen-razor sharp voyager trivia :-)

Slip on a treadmill and you lose a tooth.

Noo she isnt, at least i hope not:eek:..She has done a lot of TV work , theatres since Voyager it is impossible for her to remember every little detail about Voyager and all the species she had encountered. I have just seen OITNB and that woman is as sharp as a razor

Im 44 and i cant even distinguish between Janeway and Mulgrew "apparantly". Could it be that i am having this - what you call it...Ali Berry?

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

I read Born With Teeth by Kate Mulgrew (advanced reader's copy). She barely mentions Star Trek. A few harmless observations. Mostly how she got the role. No dirt. No gossip. She does not mention either Jennifer Lien or Jeri Ryan in any context, much less by name. She does not mention Orange is the New Black at all.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Memory is plastic and unreliable. Every time you remember something you essentially read the file then write it back, and this rewrite is colored by your thoughts and emotions at the moment you do this, and this causes the memories to alter like a game of telephone. The more often you revisit the story, the more transcription errors. Damn, where's my checksum!

Heyyyy thanks for that JeffinOakland..

Oh really? No mention ( of very little )of Star Trek? That show was the pinnancle of her career:eek:. Im surprised a whole chapter was not dedicated to it.

It seems like She was so mindful of what she wanted to convey(hence why it took so long to be written and published) and i bet wanted to protect to Ryan /Lien but not mentioning them.A pity the same could not be said for Ryan's recent " throw Mulgrew under the bus" syndrome with her " Intentially unpleasant" experience with her:rolleyes:. Im proud of Mulgrew for being the bigger person and not play the tit for tate game. Waste of energy and a rob of her new found happiness:techman:

I guess this book is more about her daughter, the various men she had affairs with and rise and falls of fame .You knowwww Mulgrew has to throw in the MEN she has encountered - just to stamp it into peoples head lol....

I hope her fans enjoys it all the same.. Im not a huge fan so wont be purchasing it . I may have sneeky peek at the pictures at our local bookstore but thats about it

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Yeah. It's definitely a "read for free" experience. She spends very little time discussion the craft or business of acting. To be fair, she doesn't seem any more or less self-absorbed than most celebrities. It is a memoir, after all. Of course, its all about her. Her proud Irish heritage. Her love life. Her movies and tv shows. Her friends. Her offspring. I'm not sure if she's trying to protect anyone or just refusing to "go there" and reopen that can of worms. There is a chapter on ST but its very superficial. How she got the job. How she felt about Beltran. How her sons felt about it. That sort of stuff.

How she felt about Beltran
Oh something for the J/C's . Did she romantize their encounter and spoke about how she felt her a god send and how she tried hard to resist him but soon succomb to his slick cherokee hair? LMAO!

This relevation isnt surprising and of course the MEN in her past and present lives. She had to get that in right?! .God i should be a palm reader. How do i know that  :)

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Ohhhh yes she is... ;):guffaw:. Im glad she spoke about the craft and the business as a whole. Who can be more of an expert to touch on that than she is. She is certainly one of the dying bred of thespians geniuses around
