iZombie season 2 discussion thread

Holy smokes, this week's episode was brilliant!

I'm so glad that I don't watch episode previews, so I had no idea that was coming. So meta, and here I thought it was going to be a Christmas episode when it started. They shoot in Seattle instead of Portland for the tax breaks. Brilliant. There's a new Power Rangers movie coming. Brilliant.

I loved it. What a fun, fun episode.

You can always count on Ravi to look on the bright side of things:)

Watching Liv fangirl over Zombie High was hilarious!

Ooh, someone's in trouble... Starts with a "B", ends with an "E", rhymes with insane!

The most hilarious throwaway gag, in the opening sequence that sped over the Christmas break: The district attorney's name is Baracus. That's right -- D.A. Baracus. I pity the fool who takes him on in court.

I love it that, in addition to all the meta stuff about a zombie TV show, they threw in a nod to Rose McIver's past as a Power Ranger. But her line was a bit odd -- "I don't think he has the range for Blue." I couldn't figure out what that was referring to. The most famous Blue Ranger, David Yost in the original Mighty Morphin', was easily the worst actor in the main cast. McIver's Blue co-star in RPM was a perfectly okay actor, but hardly a standout among what was surely the most talented cast in Power Rangers history (whose alumni include not only McIver, but Jessica Jones's Eka Darville and Reign's Adelaide Kane). The Blue Ranger in the current Dino Charge season is literally a caveman. Other infamous Blue Rangers include the annoying preteen Justin in Turbo and the likeable but notoriously underutilized Madison in Mystic Force (whose only focus episode was basically about how rarely she got to do much of anything). The only really standout actor to have worn blue in the franchise's history is probably Archie Kao from Lost Galaxy, who went on to become a CSI regular. But then, maybe that was the joke -- that the Blue Rangers are not known for being impressive, so saying someone didn't have the range for Blue would be a grave insult indeed.

I was annoyed by the direction and editing in the scene where Liv and Clive were interviewing the hearing-impaired cast member. The camera spent more time focusing on the sign-language interpreter than on the person she was interpreting for. When someone is speaking through an interpreter like that, it's rude to focus on the interpreter instead of them.

One other thing I noticed: Blaine's laptop seems to be the exact same model as the one I just bought a couple of months ago. Which is interesting, because it's a refurbished model that's from about 4 years ago, I think.

God, I love this show! It just went full meta, I haven't seen a show go full meta since Stargate SG-1.

Sooo many metajokes, I had to watch it a second time just to get them all.

"You know what would be fun? A zombie-show where the zombie is the star!""

Tax breaks!

Ravi: "I found this from Episode 2.10."

And the Blue Ranger joke had me rolling on the floor. :guffaw:

Finally caught up with this week's ep, which was both fun and eventful. Gotta to love a publishing-themed murder mystery, with lots of good red herrings.

And as for meta: nice surprise "appearance" by Kristin Bell.

I forget, is Blaine a zombie again? When he and Peyton were getting all "hot and bothered" I kept thinking "What if she's turned into a zombie?"

He's cured for now, but it looks like the cure is impermanent -- and it's unknown whether a temporarily-cured infectee is contagious. So Peyton might be at risk -- as might Liv's undercover roommate who slept with Major -- but it's hard to say.

If they are at risk of being infected, that would spell huge trouble for Gilda because she is the daughter of the CEO of Max Rager.

If Peyton becomes zombified then at least she has Liv and Ravi to help her.

That seemed like it could have been some sort of season finale, the way it ended. But I guess there are still 6 episodes to go.

The pieces are finally starting to come together, as Blaine and Major are finally figuring out what the other has been up to. They've still got a bunch more to clue some of the characters in to though.

It seemed like they didn't go quite as far as they could have with the pathological liar brain though. Or maybe they filmed a bunch more, and it just got too old too fast, and they cut a lot of it out.

I think 13 was the original episode order for this season (before they upped it to 19) so that's probably why it felt so "-fin-" as the final caption read.
