I've had a bad couple of weeks.

FIrst my sister lost her long-term girlfriend to cancer and she is kind of lost as to what to do. They have a child. She lives out of town and I hope they move back but not sure if they will. Then just a few days ago I found out that the problems I was having with my knee was worst than being just a pulled hamstring. It seems I have severe arthritis and the doctor was talking about a knee surgery. Even though I will be 43 this October 24 he said I have the knee of a 60 year old. Proably because of weight and maybe me going to fast in exercise to try and loose weight. At least I will be able to go do rehab. Also got my very first cortizone shot and steroid shot. It has helped with the pain and I can now walk at least with minimal pain.
The upside though is Trump didn't nuke someone of get us nuked which I thought might have happened. I was watching the first episode of "The Good Place" and then my phone started beeping which shocked me because I got a flip phone and anytime it does something modern it surprises me. Same thing happened when I got my first Amber Alert. The message said it was a Presidental Alert and knowing who we have that didn't sound so good. SInce nothing happened I don't know what it could have been.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your sister's partner. My deepest sympathies to her and their child.

Best of luck with your knee. Glad to hear that the shots helped with your pain.

The presidential alert was just a test. (This time... :shifty: )

Best wishes to you and your family.

Jayson, I can empathize with you and your knee. A couple of years ago I had to get both of mine repaired after taking a couple of falls, and I have arthritis as well. I'll only be fifty in February.

The good news is though I walk with a cane I am walking. The rehab can be tough but it works quite well if you stick to it.

I can also relate to those knee issues, Jayson. I've had chronic on and off knee pain for a while now. I even changed my profession partially because of it, and I'm too nervous now to do all the squatting and running that I used to enjoy, for fear of potential damage. My best advice is to listen to your body, and try whatever the physical therapist suggests. I recommend experimenting with fish oil and joint supplements.

Knee pain is a--well--pain. I get it from time to time and can empathize.

My younger brother had hip surgery a couple of years ago. He just turned 40 this year. His doctor told him that he had the hip of an 80-year-old.

My condolences to your sister and their child. I can only imagine what's she's going through in the loss of her girlfriend and their child in the loss of one of her mothers.

Just waiting for those alerts to come nightly at 2am whenever someone gets itchy fingers. I personally cannot see a valid reason for a president to need to personally reach out to the entirety of the mobile-phone-owning population. We have other emergency systems and agencies in place that take care of anything I can possibly think of.

My dad got necrosis of the femur head at a younger than expected age. Unfortunately, it happens :(

Sorry for all the pain and loss. My prayers go out to you.

I was told almost a decade ago that I had the eyes of an 80-year old. Between the lot of us, we're getting closer to being able to assemble a fully-functional senior citizen. :shifty:

My understanding is that your president isn't personally sending anything. The Presidential Alerts come from FEMA, and it is the new cell phone component of their pre-existing emergency alert system, which also includes TV and such.

Can we start a sitcom next? I think my knees creak like a 50 year old and I'm only 30.

I'm sorry for your sister's and your little niece's loss, Jayson. :( I hope they'll recover from the shock quickly.

Don't trust the doc who tries to talk you into knee surgery. Get a second opinion by all means. More than half of knee surgeries performed in Germany aren't necessary and I presume the situation is similar in your Country..
I've had arthrosis for 25 years now. Not quite the same thing as arthritis but very closely related. You'll be surprised at what a good physiotherapist can achieve. Also, there are special arthritis meds that dampen the pain. Losing weight is a necessary first step and you are already well on the way. It won't harm to give your waistline a bit more time to shrink and it won't harm your knees if you wait a few months. Arthritis tends to flare up in fall with the cold and moist weather but it'll get better in spring.
An excellent home remedy is to make a poultice with Quark (naah, not the Ferengi but the dairy product). With a little luck you might get it at Aldi. Else, try a mix of yoghurt and sour cream (both should be very thick, so that they stay on the poultice and don't leak out).
You just smear the stuff thickly on the hurting joints, cover with a kitchen towel and leave it on till it starts to dry. Then wash it off. Repeat as often as you like.
The point of these poultices is that they cool pleasantly and the lactic acid stops the inflammation. It doesn't harm and might be worth a try.
If you are allergic to milk or lactic acid you can try wrapping cabbage leaves around the aching joints. Cabbage contains something anti-inflammatory. With regard to your clothes, white cabbage is better than red cabbage - the latter leaves bad stains. Take a big leaf or several small ones, Squash them with a rolling pin till the juice comes out and then wrap them around the joint. Cover with a towel and leave on for an hour or two.
