I've figured out the flash-sidways (spoilers up to Dr Linus)

I really don't think so. The cut on Jack's neck and his appendectomy scar are clues that whatever happened on the Island somehow spilled over into this alternate reality.

That and the James' code word, La Fleur.

Any chance "La Fleur" is Sawyer's mother's maiden name? It'd be why he'd use it--easy to remember.

Interesting thought. Yeah, it could also be some coincidence, similar thought process occuring in both universes.

Last season when were told two seemingly contradictory things: 1)Dead is dead, and 2)John Locke came back from the dead. As it turned out, 1 was a clue that 2 was in fact, not really happening. The clues were there that Locke wasn't realy Locke.

It seems to me with the latest relelation about what the Island is in Ab Aeterno, there are two possibilities:

1)Jacob is correct and not lying when he says the island is a cork keeping evil from getting out into the world. If that's the case, then that's our clue is in what Jacob said, and despite the great stuff we see happening to the characters in the flash-sideways world, things are actually going to go to hell for them later in the season.

2)The flash-sideways themselves are our clue that Jacob is either incorrect or lying about the nature of the island, and that life would actually be good if our characters "pop the cork" so to speak.

As far as I can tell, it's gotta be one or the other. I really feel like we've been set up for a big revelation a la John Locke at the end of season five.

Do you think the flash sideways are going to end up being where the MIB is already unleashed over there and we just haven't seen it yet? That the FS were a loophole for Jacob when he died/Jughead detonated creating the FS as a place where Jacob via HIS loophole will give the candidates a choice of whether to send the MIB there sacrificing their "untouched by Jacob/didn't crash" lives for the greater good of humanity in the original timeline? Just babbling, but do others think FS are going to have MIB? It just seems too perfect for the most part on that side of the mirror lol.

That's been my personal theory for a while, yes. Though Widmore's comment about everything just ceasing to exist the moment MIB gets off the island puts it into question (though only a little bit; afterall, how would he or anyone else know what would happen?).

Widmore is still a huge question mark. Remember Bram, one of Ilana's people, told Miles not to join Widmore's group, telling him he was "playing for the wrong team." So whose side is Widmore really on?

I don't think so. What kind of resolution is that, to have MiB banished to the alternate timeline to wreck havoc there? That's not very satisfying.

The islanders will actively produce a satisfying ending. There will be an emphasis on free choice, lack of manipulation, and the pawns banding together to overcome the game masters.

Possibly. However, a big theme of the show has always been free will vs. fate. What if it turns out that fate wins?

Do you think the flash sideways will be resolved in the next couple of episodes making the show just about the on island portion of the story sometime soon (which would be awesome) or do you think we will not find out how the flash sideways fits into the equation until the series finale?

I'm sure it's not going to be until the finale. They've set up something big that they aren't going to pay off before then.

Remember this about the flash-sideways, the changes in the people's lives occurred BEFORE the Oceanic flight, such as Jack's kid being born long before the flight. So just the flight not having crashed isn't the catalyst for the flash-sideways lives. Something long before that must have changed.

Even if it's "the nuke sank the island in 1977 so Jacob never touched these people and that's the change" doesn't explain Locke's broken back after fighting with hid father yet having a good relationship with him in the flash-sideways (though it could be explained that he fell through some other reasoning). Nor would it explain Hurley winning the lottery, since no island means no numbers repeatedly mumbled by a fellow-patient (though it could be explained that he just won it with other numbers).

Locke could have ended up in the wheelchair in a different way. We know that there is some force which guides certain events to happen, and that those fated events cannot be escaped. Like in the case of Charlie, he couldn't stay alive. The sideways is showing us that certain things are meant to be.

Just some quotes I found that are "interesting" :) Come back at ten to see why

You know what would've been funny? If during the flash sideways funeral for Christian, if Patrick Dempsey showed up as Jack's cousin Derek. Would mess with the fans and cause the message boards to catch fire. :)

Do you think Darlton have the guts and actually want (I know most of the show is already filmed) to bring Nikki and Paulo back in a cameo in the ALT or do you think those 2 actors wouldn't return knowing they weren't popular among fans? I think it would be hilarious if they did. Even Achara too although that is even less likely lol.

All right, so I'm updating my theory after Recon. Really, it's a merging of various theories already posited. First of all, I'm changing my stance to the so-called alternate universe really being purgatory, as in, the characters are dead. Well, okay, still not the Catholic idea of purgatory, but a land of holding for the dead all the same. I backtracked on that before. Now I'm backtracking my backtrack. :p

Well, this thread was about how the flash-sideways was some sort of afterlife for the characters, and it turns out I was actually almost right. I wasn't right about it being a place where they were being judged, or that they would come back to life from this place, though. But I did correctly guess that it was a holding area for the dead, so I sort of got the "what" but not the "how" or "why". :p

You win.

The whole Internets or just the thread? :p
You win a Jackface.
