ITV - Proving unoriginality = profit

Just seen a report for ITV's new autumn lineup. Apparently, they're kicking off with a whole new variety show that's never been done before, which will have two different hosts each week and bla bla bla... If by never been done before they mean "Friday Night Project", then yes.

No mention of any new talent shows for this month, though reality TV is still going strong with I'm A Celebrity. It looks like their half-hearted attempts at sci-fi/thrillers have gone awry, so instead there's a whole batch of new music-based dramas:

Britannia High, a musical drama set in a UK performing arts school... The cast play a group of six close-knit students and the series will climax in a 90-minute finale which takes the form of an end-of-term students' showcase.

And also "Caught In A Trap" about a woman who is obsessed with Elvis, and a re-imagining of "Pride and Prejudice" (this I know for a fact hasn't been done before 45 times).

I'm assuming the near constant repeats of Midsomer Murders, Morse, A Touch Of Frost and the plethora of spinoffs are still on the schedule. And just in case you actually want to watch them, they've got a bucketload of football, so the programmes listed above can be bounced around the schedule to make way.

I'm assuming a late night, more adult version of Primeval with more dinosaurs (Evil Pram) is on the way. Along with a load of spinoffs of Lewis, Taggart, Cracker and The Bill: Community Support Officers and The Bill: ASBO.

Is it just me who's getting a tad weary of ITV's complete lack of imagination? Four channels of what is essentially re-runs, crime dramas and re-runs of crime dramas. I'm not saying BBC always get it right, but at least they have a go.

Coup d'etat anyone?

Just when you thought ITV couldn't get any more Lowest Common Denominator, eh? Guess this is what happens when ad revenue starts dropping.
I was just starting to think there might be some hope for ITV, too.

The Z-Factor where even less talented people get insulted for our amusement by Simon Cowell.

Sweet Zombie Jeebus Titty Fucking Christ On A Bike NNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!

My brain is crying from just thinking about it. *shudder*

On the rare occasion I look to see if anything's on the telly, I don't even give any ITV channel a thought. I just mentally skip them.

ITV is like the TARDIS of TV channels - you know it's there, you just don't take any notice of it.

Only worth watching for the football. That the only use I've ever seen for the channel, the rest of the time it's just the one a click over to get from BBC to five.

Why do you Brits always have to copy American shows?!?!?

Ah well, I guess the crime is its own punishment. :rommie:

Now now, it wasn't our networks that completely gutted Red Dwarf, The Office and keep finding new ways to destroy Life On Mars. There's also the US take on Alf Garnett (Archie Bunker), the aborted attempt at The IT Crowd, the SECOND gutting of Red Dwarf, the US version of Fawlty Towers (Payne was it?)... the list goes on... (odd that these are all BBC shows, no? :p Pretty much sums up my disapproval of ITV)

It's not entirely a one-way process my friend ;)

ah, well, the only ITV show i watch is Primeval anyway...

Heroes is on BBC2, T:TSCC is on Virgin 1, Torchwood is on BBC1 this year, Doctor Who is BBC1, SJA is on CBBC/BBC1 and Robin Hood is BBC1.

Plus, i'll give Merlin a dekko. on BBC1...

But isn't the TARDIS like, way awesome on the inside?

No, it's a British version of the modern TARDIS - over-designed and populated by people who shout a lot.:guffaw:
I'd say it's more like a local shop, you don't often use it, and when ever you do there seems to be a bunch of chavs hanging round, but occasionally you just might want something from there.

I hate ITV. I watch it for Formula One and maybe occasionally football, but they show far too much crap. I do my best to avoid it, really.

What really bugs me is the ITV 'news.' People complain about BBC's bias but ITV's sensationalism is maybe more damaging. Maybe. Meh, I tend to read the news anyway. :p

ITV News is like the British equivilent of FOX News. Terrible OTT tabloid Daily Mail-esque shite.
Tonight with Trevor McDonald is like watching Brass Eye
