Its time for The BORG

Dales

One of the reasons why I want the Borg is because it will be a break from ...another villain who wants revenge on from the federation.

I hope we get a trek 4, If paramount can give us a star trek 6: the undiscovered country after star trek 5: the final frontal, they should give a us new star trek 4 film with this cast.

I would like to see JJ Abrams direct and Pegg and Orci maybe write the script with a Borg villain.

The Borg are quite an intellectual horror (by that I mean they aren't aggressive, just horrific in a statistical way) - their appearance in Q Who is still the best, with Q's narration of what they are about - but without some ready room conference and long exposition, I can see a movie just degenerating into a "shoot the cybernetic zombies" thing - which is exactly what destroyed the Borg as an interesting entity.

First Contact did the Borg very well, I think JJ and Co can do it well as well. I would like to see Q make a cameo too. The Borg is also Trek's iconic villain apart from Khan so they should give it a shot.

with all dude respect no its not. What Star Trek 5 should be is a proper Klingon movie, so far the new timeline hasnt really told any proper Klingon stories, sure they are mentioned in the first, and are seen in the second, but they are not the main threat.

Something a bit like the inverse of The Discovered Country, whilst one faction of the Klingons plots for all out war with the federation, after brutal attacks on some small out posts along the border (naturally) a small faction (the House of Mogh) comes to the federation to try for peace behind the back of the other Klingons.

Kirk and Jaylah on board a Klingon ship, Sulu on on the Excelsior, and Spock in command on the Enterprise, Kirk sneaks on the Klingon home world, and is able talk the Klingons out of war.

The twist at the end, the House of Mogh has been using the federation as a distraction, to blow up Praxis, allowing them to take power. The movie ends with the Klingons on the brink of Civil War, many still wanting to attack the federation for its part in the coup.

It's debatable that FC did the borg justice. It's a popular opinion the borg Queen diluted the hive like menace of them, and for me the possible inclusion of Q is one too many TNG characters for me, having the borg is a stretch IMO.

The problem with the Borg is that they are an intellectual threat. That doesn't work in an action movie. First Contact got around it by adding lots of horror elements. But there is no way, in a movie wherer our heroes ride motorbikes and jump around, static guys like the Borg can be taken serious as a threat. They only really work as a foil against real human beings. Not against action heroes.

I thought the whole point of doing a reboot was to do something fresh, not just go back and re-tell the same stories over and over with a different cast.

Plus, in what way in the Kelvin-verse are the Borg suddenly halfway across the galaxy near the 23rd century UFP?

Also, coming off the back of Beyond that had an insect-like swarm and drone army, wouldn't the borg look a bit samey? If people are staying away from beyond because it's 'same old same old' then this would seal the franchise's fate for the immediate future.

Meh. Between the Swarm in Beyond and the entire queen/hive/invasion stuff in Resurgance, I feel like I've already seen it.

It would just be too redundant after all these drone things in the lastest movie. And you know they'd have a new Queen and have another angry villain.

Lets have a huge monster, or some internal threat to the Federation from a group and not an individual. Or something more humanitarian to save another planetary populace?

I would like an early Borg encounter without the "Resistance is futile" line, Q could then turn up and say something like "You are not meant to be here yet" or something along those lines.

It doesn't have to be the Q (John de Lancie) we know either, could be someone else as a cameo.

Borg are so overdone. You could have the best writer and director team of your choice at this point in time and I doubt it would work. Too much preconceived notions, too many weaknesses, and thoroughly diluted bad guys.

They haven't been on the big screen in twenty-plus years. Though I agree with the above post about them being a little too similar to the Swarm.

They did something fresh with Beyond and people didn't show up.

In a perfect world, there's no villain in the next film. It's all about Kirk and his daddy.

What I expect is another big baddie who wants to get revenge and more doomsday devices.

So no, please no more Borg.

Were Orci and Lindelof still writing these movies (and Abrams directing) I would definitely expect the Borg to have been in the third one. Now that they're gone hopefully Simon Pegg and Justin Lin will continue their quality work from Beyond. And yes, I am aware different writers have been hired for the fourth one, but that doesn't really mean anything. They were fired last time for a reason, don't be surprised if it happens again.

Actually, the Borg have already visited Earth in the Kelvin-verse Starfleet Academy YA novel series.

We're not getting a Star Trek movie without a villain. Okay, there've already been two, but those movies still had Earth under threat. So even if the fourth is villain-free, there's still going to be a huge alien probe for Kirk and his dad to tag-team to stop.

I always wondered how Kirk would deal with the Borg but I enjoyed Beyond specifically because it wasn't a regurgitation of anything from previous movies or shows. The villains were new and unique to this version of Trek and along with Jaylah it helped expand that world more than the other two movies did. Maybe in a 7th or 8th movie the Borg could face Kirk but I'm happy to see new alien threats for a while. The Borg will probably surface in Discovery at some point anyway.

Hence the "in a perfect world" part of my post ;)

One of the reasons I really like the reboot is that it means we can put all those tired TNG villains and tropes to pasture and bring the TOS ones out to have their time in the sun again.

We have the Gorn in the video games and the Tholians in the comics, but what about some of the other races? The Melkotians? Thasians? Horta? Talosians? Many TOS races appear only as homages or name-drops in sequel series of Trek. I still think they're some of the best aliens in the universe and we hardly get to see them otherwise. Certainly the sparsity of TOS leaves a lot of room in modern interpretations to get creative with the material, but still be a nice nod to nostalgic fans like me.

I am very tired of the Borg, I'm very tired of TNG era Klingons. It's nice to see the latter rebooted, and the longer former stays off the screen the happier I'll be.
