It's official. Star Trek:The Experience to close in September.

I'm taking the family the third week of August. Jeez, I might be the last person to set foot in the place.

I went once back in Dec of 01. It was very cool. Sat in Quark's drinking a Warp Core Breach while Way of the Warrior was playing on the TV. Doubt I'll make it back before it closes. :(

Let's begin the countdown until the ride films get some form of DVD release.

Doubt it will happen? Come on, this is Paramount we are talking about!!!! Sometimes there are legalities that would prevent a film created to be a public attraction from getting a home video release. But Paramount has constantly released every tv episode and film on whatever the current home video format is. I suspect that the contracts for cast and crew members of both rides films covered a potential home video release.

I will miss this attraction. I was lucky enough to go to it three separate occasions over the last 5 years. The benefit of having a sister who lives in Las Vegas. They really could build a whole casino with a Sci-Fi theme. It would not have to be solely Star Trek or just aimed at hardcore fans.

I thought it was really cool when you could take your picture sitting in the Captain's Chair. I did that, and took the behind the scenes tour. I loved seeing the costumed dudes walking around like the Ferengi telling you to buy stuff.

I never did that. I am regretting it now...

Being at the Las Vegas Hilton did not help the popularity of this. The Hilton is far removed from the rest of the Strip. The attractions and exhibits in downtown get walk-ins. People with no prior plans but walk up and down the Strip and check things out. But that could never happen with the Star Trek Experience. You either have to be a Trekkie with knowledge of it or staying at the Hilton. Its easier now with the Monorail. But even still you had to be motivated to ride it all the way to the Hilton.

I went about a year after it opened, and besides the last six Creation conventions in Las Vegas, I've been about four other times. I bought the Season 1 DVD Voyager set at Best Buy, and it came with about a 20 minute bonus video highlighting the Experience. I'm glad I'll get to see it one more time in August for the convention :(.

I'll probably try to go at some point during the August con this year, one last time. It's pricey but if it's closing, it's worth it.

Damned shame... but nothing good lasts forever. I've been many times over the years. My wife used to work/live away from home 3-6 months of the year for about 5 years in a row and I'd catch a flight from L.A. to Vegas and stay at the Hilton and just hang out in Quarks, go on the rides, etc. The LV Hilton and ST:TE were my resort... the geek version of taking a cruise. I'd bring uniforms with me and just go full-immersion... and I'd always meet other interesting Trekkies at the bar. I also had tons of fun interacting with the costumed characters, who always went all-out in their portrayals.

I'll miss this place. I'm going one more time July 28-30 with my wife. We're staying at the Hilton (the last time I'll be their guest for sure) and will probably spend most of our time in the Experience.

Im glad I got to see it in March. Had a good time, because I went back twice and both times my friend and I split a warp core breach. We also dropped a good deal of money at the gift shop on uniforms, models and other things. The rides were pretty cool, especially the Borg one. I like how you sat in the chair and it felt like you were being assimilated. The musuem had some nice pieces in it, but I wonder where that stuff will end up? Are they going to auction it off?
