It's official: Jackson to direct the Hobbit

It's still not official and that article doesn't confirm anything.
It's funny how you can tell from the replies no one read it...

I thought since it was an IMDB link it would be offical enough since the post had "confirmed" in it. But seems not so.

IMDB really isn't the most credible of sources, so I just checked TheOneRing.Net to see if they had anything about the supposed confirmation, but the only mention they have is an article from 2 days ago with the headline 'Peter Jackson Close to Deal to Direct Hobbit'. This tells me that, contrary to whatever IMDB says, he hasn't yet been confirmed, but should be soon.

It's going to happen. There is no one else that can direct "The Hobbit" with the same passion and detail aside from Del Toro. I think Del Toro would have turned in an amazing movie but Peter, Fran, and Philippa really are fans of the books and understand cinematically what fans want and how to adapt the book to film which is probably why they took on writing the script in the first place. It's too bad about the union stuff. Hopefully they're able to find a location soon as well. I'd be shocked if this didn't come out in 2013.

Hobbit negotiations fail

According to the website The One Ring.net the negotiations with the labour unions in New Zealand have failed. Personally im glad they have. I was really getting tired of this. Especially considering how many people are still out of work because of the worldwide recession still grabbing on a bit. These people should have been happy to have jobs at all(Sucks to be you doesnt it precious!:alienblush:). The website also claims that there is talk of the production going to the Gold Coast. Your thoughts and comments everyone.

Re: Hobbit negotiations fail

As long as the Shire looks about the same, I couldn't care less where they filmed it. I heard that had some initial difficulty finding rolling hills that look like England in New Zealand anyway (it wasn't the ideal place, just the place Peter Jackson wanted to film). They edit everything heavily with computers, so it's not a big deal.

I'm trying to think of various scenes and what they need. Mountains, forests, open fields to walk in. I think it's all there.

Re: Hobbit negotiations fail

Yeesh. There are green rolling tree-covered hills not very far from Hollywood if you're there at the right time of year. It can't be that hard to find the right scenery.

Re: Hobbit negotiations fail

^My geography is a little rusty but I think it's West Africa, mostly around Ghana.

Re: Hobbit negotiations fail

Bilbo just grew up in the East Shire, where Gandalf rescued him from the gang life, problem solved. :)

Re: Hobbit negotiations fail

I just love the title. It sounds like Obama was trying to broker a deal with Hobbits.

Re: Hobbit negotiations fail

They need to just film this already. Saw Howard Shore last night and he's more than ready to get started writing the score. The biggest downside to leaving NZ will be the loss of the prep work they already started. Heck, even Alan Lee is there doing sketches already.

Re: Hobbit negotiations fail

Yeah, too bad. Unfortunately the Tolkien estate hasn't licensed the rights to anything other than The Hobbit (and LOTR, of course).

Re: Hobbit negotiations fail

Time to start filming in Vancouver. Expect to see way more pine trees in this movie. If you watch Stargate, you'll know what I'm talking about. :p
