It's never as good as the first time...

Tonight I made scones for the first time! I've never been much of a baker so it's been a while since I've had a chance to play with dough. It was messy but kind of fun. Even better, the maple walnut scones are edible.

Anyone else try something for the first time?

I remember the first time I made meatloaf (I know this doesn't have to be about food, well, I like food :D ). I was worried the whole time that what I would end up getting would be one giant meat brick.

As it turned out, the meatloaf was juicy, rich, and according to all who ate it, delicious. I don't know if I have the nerves to try it again.

Oh, those sound yummy! Haven't cooked anything new lately, my parents have been requesting some favorite old recipes. But...

I tried a new crochet stitch the other day, a loop stitch with two different yarns, acrylic 4-ply and FunFur... just a little swatch to see how it would look. It looked awesome, and I am going to crochet me a little Tribble this week.

It sounds deserving of a repeat performance!

Speaking as someone who is still trying to get the difference between knit and perl straight that's quite impressive. :)

Well, I've always figured if TBBS ever had one big meet up, I'd bring a whole bunch of goodies I like to cook, including cookies, dishes like Meatloaf, lasagna, etc., I make a huge potato salad. Feeds 12. :D

This meetup would be in Minneapolis, right? ;)

BTW, love the avatar. I've just finished watching the series for the first time.

Yep. I remember the first time I made scrambled eggs without burning them. They were great. That, and frying hamburger is still the only thing I can cook without danger of burning my house down.

I was going to say that nothing is ever as good as the first time. But that's not true.

Sex gets much better after the first time.

My experience with sushi, too. The first time I tried sushi, I liked it. But I got it at a supermarket and didn't realize that it was 3rd rate. When I had sushi at a REAL restaurant, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Especially the eel & avocado sushi. Yummm.

At least you didn't mention lutefisk...

You do that and I'll make my Chocolate Chip Oatmeal cookies. The recipe I have makes a gross. :D

 I've been meaning to do the same thing!

So far the dog's hedgehog that rolls up into a ball has been serving as our resident tribble when it's not suffering horribly in the jaws of the dog . . .

The first time I made Spaghetti Carbonara I feared the wrath of our collective stomachs - but it wasn't awful and my kid asked for secends. I don't cook particualrly well or joyfully but when I get asked for seconds it's always a great day!

Homemade hotdogs, haven't been as good as the first time I made them, I think it's all in the mustard, I used a great French honey mustard the first time.

^ homemade? like in a grinder with casing and all?

More importantly - do you still like politics?

My Grandfather loved his. He made Polish and Summer Sausage every fall after we um, took the hogs out back. His recipe died with him, however, he was unwilling to share it with any who wanted it . I can't eat Polish Casserole without thinking of him. And I still like sausage after seeing it made - getting less and less thrilled with politics though . . .
