It there any way to return Edith Keeler to Star Trek?

Collins did make a pretty great appearance in "Will & Grace". IIRC she initially comes off as a snooty upper-class type and later is seen gorging herself on a massive trashy burrito. :)

I can't actually remember what inspired this thread, but I like the idea of Keeler in GEN. That was probably the only time it would have made sense. And it could have been Collins again so that Kirk could have the ideal Nexus age-appropriate version, still compatible with him despite how they both might have changed and evolved over time.

...And while I'm usually the one wanting the dead to stay dead and the timeline of first contacts with aliens to be honored....like, have some fun, people – yeah? This is a sci-fi bulletin board on the internet.
I agree.
I might have liked GEN better if we had seen Kirk in domestic bliss with Collins maybe in 1950s/60s America. David could have been their son married to a human Saavik and Spock and McCoy (if they were only willing to pay for 2 TOS guest stars could have made appearances as a scientist and a doctor).
Then you might have understood why Kirk wanted to stay in the Nexus. Probably would have still been a rubbish movie though.

We know that in one universe, Edith was involved in a powerful Dynasty. ;)

And combatted an Empire of the Ants. :)

Honestly, I always thought Collins was good in "City." She had the charisma and substance to convince you that (a) she could become a major public figure and (b) that Kirk would fall in love with her. It's easy to imagine the episode having much less impact if Edith was played by a more forgettable actress.

Generations was the perfect opportunity. Kirk's Nexus fantasy could have been them living together the 1950's. But instead they invented a new character nobody knew of or cared about.

I guess a reason (or maybe the reason) why there was no Edith in the nexus would be the issue of having to credit/pay Harlan Ellison? (or if they didn't need to the issue of having him screaming they used his character without permission/threats of lawsuits)

also had she been there the writers would've had to come up with a brief scene for her and had Kirk explain who she is abit (otherwise the non trek audience would be like 'er ..Alexis is his dream woman? wtf is that all about?) which would've detracted from the historic Kirk and Picard meeting (of them cooking eggs..before galloping to Shatners Kirks charity horse show)

If Collins showed up looking like she did in City, I think she’d been fine. Alexis was all hair and shoulder pads. Or they could have had her silhouette standing at the top of the hill and have the same relative affect as Antonia, or Ruth.

regarding returning Edith to Trek now... maybe Tarantino will end his movie with Kirk (deaged 1960s Shatner) using the Guardian to go back to 30s NY to hook up with Edith (deaged Collins) :)

I like the idea of her life as instigating the Mirror Universe in some way. However, I wish they had a stronger female role, like Edith Keeler, on the Enterprise.

Thats always kind of sort of been my head canon; that the original Mirror Universe was created by McCoy when he saved Edith, and the Nazi's formed the Terran Empire.

But under that rule man never went to the stars!!! So really no Mirror Universe in that reality! It could be the Discovery's one though? :techman::lol:

Sure they did. They hijacked the Vulcans in the 21st century, and later upped their technology by stealing the Defiant.

Given the 23rd century humanity had gotten past all the issues Edith was fighting for, would Edith fit in on the Enterprise in such an anachronistic way? Would there be better ways to show strong female roles in 23rd century context? (e.g. in TAS when Uhura takes command ("The Lorelei Signal" but in circumstances other than all the males being affected by yet another "Planet of the Amazonian Women" trope of the sort that Futurama had a field day with?)
Kirk had lots of snu-snu...
