Exactly. I don't remember anyone being up in arms about TOS Remastered. Because it was done with a degree of respect to the source material that seems to be lacking this time around.
I really fucking hate TOS remastered.
For the most parts it's fine - but EVERY single starship scene is a horrible fucking mess. The CGI looks
amazingly cartoonish bad, and the whole direction (camera moves, sweeps) of the ships clashes
hard with TOS more stationary camera work.
It's a fucking mess. The somewhat corny model work is a big part of TOS, if they wanted to re-do that, they should have either used the original filmed material like TNG remastered (although the final result wouldn't have had the same quality), or stick a lot closer to the original effects.
EdenFX (who did he fx for ENT) was actually in the running as well, and their version would have fitted much better:

(take especially a look at the downloadable video)
But alas, EdenFX would have made top of the line efects. And CBS wanted to play cheap and let their in-house fx team have a shot at it (and utterly fail at it).
The worst part is that the remastered version now is the only version that will get shown on television re-runs.
I LOVE the work they did for TNG. That was truly special and amazing. But the remastering of TOS I hold in the same regard as George Lucas' tinkering with the original Star Wars movies. Don't try to fix what isn't broken!
