ISS astronauts coming home early due to medical episode

Yes, and why? From an economic viewpoint, there is no perceived benefit. Are people clamouring to live in a high radiation environment with microgravity that will harm their health in the medium to long term? A tourist trip would be out of reach of most people due to the expense.

NASA's budget is too small for such projects and the money instead goes to bail out Argentina or to subsidise oil companies building oil infrastructure in Venezuela. Meanwhile, SpaceX can't even get its biggest steel cans into LEO, never mind beyond.
 
Is this a first? Didn't one of the apollo 13 crew get sick on the way back to Earth?
Fred Haise developed a urinary tract infection, but this perhaps was the least of their problems following the explosion of an oxygen tank in the service module. This necessitated the return to Earth in a free-return trajectory by using the lunar module's descent propulsion system to correct the hybrid trajectory that the spacecraft was following.
