A new news article has been published at TrekToday:

Jason Isaacs likes playing Captain Lorca because he is not a boring one-note character. “This is ten years before the place that...

He made a comment about die hard Trekkies again, which will probably get some knickers in a twist. Personally, I still think the man is awesome AF and can't wait to see him on screen as a Starfleet captain!

"a whole new generation of difficulties”

Oh, you have no idea. At any rate, yeah, I'm sure the diehards will watch. But I'm not one of those, so best wishes. I'm sure you will do fine...with whatever it is this show is doing.

Considering he doesn't care about die hards he just can't stop caring about them. What a sweetie.

So it is a war show.. stuff the yet to happen 'Prime Directive'.

But he also said the die hard fans will realize that the show was made by trekkies.

Let's face it..."The Fans" deserve to have their sensibilities challenged and even insulted a little. They've been crapping incessantly all over everything since 1979 like a stampede of neurotic, narcissistic spoiled brats. I think Isaacs is pretty awesome for not wanting to simply be a punching bag.
The 'fans' are us. Right?? We feed the franchise and although some may whine I support my fellow fans over an actor who hasn't been a punching bag as such, but rather has purposely goaded the audience. Personally I've been posting for just less than a year, but even so I see how invested people get and that shouldn't be a reason to insult. Though I get fans are not a protected bunch either.

The actor is just trying to drum up attention. It won't matter for naught if the show flops or this new audience doesn't 'stick'. Just the die hards after all maybe. They validate his attitude, good for him.

I would never, in a million years, count myself amongst "The Fans." I love Star Trek, and I think there's some good, wheel-intended, smart, and interesting people on this board whose persectives I genuinely enjoy reading.

But I don't need a single solitary "Fan" to enjoy Star Trek. I do that just fine on my own. In fact, "The Fans" are probably my absolute least-favorite thing about Star Trek. Philosophically and just from a personal values perspective, I feel very little alignment or loyalty there whatsoever.

So yeah, Jason Isaacs is the man. Keep dishing it out to us.

LOLZ!!!1!1!!!

You just said 'us', lol.

I did indeed. He can give it to me too. Unlike others, I don't take it personally. He could take a selfie of himself giving me the finger. Doesn't change a damn thing for me. I'm just not wired that way. Sorry.

Now, are you quite finished trying to argue with me? I think I've made my position clear. I don't see any value in engaging in an emotional, "goes nowhere does nothing" argument.

A time of war may exist during the show, but the people on the Discovery are scientists explorers, not warriors, and the fact they did not join Starfleet to be soldiers is a plot point of the show:

Quote from show-runner Aaron Harberts:
“These Starfleet officers who find themselves in war are very quick to remind the audience that they didn’t sign up to do that,” he said. “That they are explorers first; that they are diplomats first. So our officers are quick to comment on the fact that this is not Starfleet’s mission. War is not why we’re here. And in fact, Discovery is a science vessel that has been conscripted for the war effort.”

War is a foundation, there is no doubt about that. I'm getting that it is what rises from war that takes them forward toward what will later be the roots of the Prime Directive.
