Is Voyager really Star Trek?

No,it is made to look and sound like star trek, but it is hollow and has no soul. I think of it as pretend trek.
Any thoughts?
:D

I completely disagree, but why was it like that for you? is it because Voyager took place in the delta quadrant?

I disagree as well. Opinions on quality aside, it was closer to the spirit of the original than any other i.e. all alone against the big bad universe.

Thanks for your thoughts. I watched the show during its initial run, and was bothered by the inconsistencies(sp) in both character development as well as story quality.
I felt that this series had the best potential of any of the series, but it just did not live up to the hype.
Which episodes would you suggest capture the spirit of star trek the most accurate?
Thanks again for your replies :)

^Exactly.

The first few seasons were especially "star trek." The last few had good intentions, but they were occasionally executed poorly...or they were about the Borg. Still, overall, I'd say it definitely qualifies as Star Trek.

In TOS the characters didn't develop at all. And TOS had a few problems of its own with inconsistent story quality. :D

VOY is Trek. Bad Trek. But Trek.

That's the lesson here: Even bad Trek remains Star Trek. Oh and points for pointing out ToS could be less then stellar - and that's my favorite.

Voyager has plenty of short comings that have been listed time and again. Once you accept them, there's an enjoyable show with several likeable characters. And it certainly held true to the mantra that Kirk recited in the opening credits of TOS better than any of the other spin-offs. I'd bet that Janeway and her crew explored more strange, new worlds and sought out more new life and new civilizations than any other Trek crew.

I will say I prefer TOS, DS9 and TNG to Voyager but if you want to talk about inconsistencies and story quality, then Enterprise takes a dump on established Trek chronology and completely goes off on its own. I would say Enterprise is much worse then Voyager.

While it has flaws, Voyager is fun to watch. It has the best crew chemistry out of all the Trek series. This means the main crew interact well with each other and characters are developed. TOS was mostly Kirk, Spock, McCoy and TNG was mostly Picard and Data but with Voyager, everyone has equal time.

Voyager also had the best start of any Trek series in my opinion. I loved the first two seasons where almost every episode was enjoyable to watch.

I think you could pick apart any Trek series including TOS and TNG for story inconsistencies and focusing on only a few characters.

Forget about the show being good or not as bad Trek is as much Trek as the good stuff is. In terms of the themes and issues it explored then it is definitely Star Trek at it's core.
