Is TNG your favourite?

Yes, it's not even a contest. While I can appreciate the saga of DS9, the highs and lows of Voyager and the boldness of TOS, none of it holds a candle to TNG. I care more about the characters far, far more. The death of Data in Nemesis got me in a place that no fictional death got me since I saw the first Transformers movie when I was 6 and watched Optimus Prime die. Serious lump in my throat from the Picard trailer. It gave us enemies like The Borg, Cardassians and Ferenghi. It spawned the finest captain to ever serve in Starfleet. Easily my favourite.

And yes, I can't think of a TV series that I know so intimately or a TV theme that gets me as pumped as TNG. There are some shows that come close, like Game of Thrones or seasons 1-8 of The Simpsons. But I love The Next Generation.

No. The best TNG episodes are better than the best TOS episodes, but I prefer TOS because the denouements to most plots can be seen by the viewer as well as the characters, where in TNG too many episodes end in "deus ex technobabble".

DS9 is a soap opera in sci-fi garb; a few interesting episodes do not redeem hours of soporific drivel, and the most interesting character - Odo - isn't developed enough.

Voyager could have been a serious "Lost In Space" but is typically silly and illogical, with characters I fell little sympathy for (Seven is quite interesting, they should have used her more).

Enterprise isn't Star Trek; the first couple of seasons are a decent science fiction show, from there it rapidly degenerates.

TNG is tired for last with VOY.
Rascals is my fav show, and Ro my fav girl.
Playing SFB did not coincide with TNG, we were still in the TOS timeline.

Is Star Trek - The Next Generation your favourite?

It can be asked in two different ways;
- Is TNG your favourite Trek series?
- Is TNG your all time favourite series?

In my case, yes and yes, TNG is the best Trek and the best series ever.

TNG is for sure my favorite Trek series, followed by DS9 and then TOS, and would probably be my default favorite TV series overall too.

Yes and No
TNG and DS9 are very close together, almost a tie. I prefer more complex relationships and the growth of DS9 characters, but for the the setting, Star Trek ideals, and JLP, I give the edge to TNG.
If I narrow down your second question to "Favorite sci-fi series", then TNG is in the second place, right after Babylon 5.

Difficult question. Of all of them, I have the best time with Deep Space Nine - I think the characters are better and more dynamic and the over-arching plot pays off better.
BUT next gen has more of what I want in a Star Trek show - optimism, exploration, betterment of humankind, recreation of Shakespeare plays you know i'm right don't @ me, kindness, values of freedom and understanding. I think in these respects I prefer the legacy of TNG, I want new Star Trek content to take inspiration from TNG, I think TNG has the best message and is everything I want in Star Trek. In many way I think TNG is the best Star Trek series. but I do like DS9 better.

Favourite series of all time? Of any show ever? Nah. Definitely not. There's a lot of really good TV shows out there that work much better than TNG.

Not my favorite, but I do like it. I am re-watching it right now so I can recall the episodes and be able to talk about them :).
I do like The Arsenal of Freedom, a lot watching that one right now in fact!

And Patrick Stewart has a lot of control over the character too. I trust him to make good decisions.
That actually worries me. I didn’t like where he took the character in the movies...for one, they all seemed to be phoning it in by NEM, but more, I felt I was seeing Patrick more than Picard. The romantic lead, the action hero, the happy dancy singy Hollywood actory guy... We’ll see where he takes it here. Hopefully his years doing theater and more “serious” stuff will coax out a more, I dunno, “sober” performance.

I think a lot of lessons were learned from Nemesis. He has had a long time to think about the role since those days. Good lord, i don't even feel like the same person from that long ago.

TNG is not my favorite trek series, but it has some of my favorite episodes of Trek.

Picard was very sober and in-character in Nemesis. It's mostly FC that people think of about Picard being out of character because he's...I dunno... different in that film. We gotta cut him some slack though, it was a bad day for him.

With NEM in particular he may have started out with enthusiasm but it then bottomed out. That script was... not great despite a couple ideas, mushed in with too many other ideas chucked in haphazardly that were rubbish and/or cannibalistic of TOS.

It's been a few decades, Stewart is one of few actors who has two or more iconic characters to his name (even two is a very rare feat), and was probably sold a few great conceptual ideas that brought back his interest.

And it's a TV show, Picard was far more well-used in the TV show than in those four movies, save for arguably most of GEN. Would he really come back to deconstruct his character out of personal angst over a rabid fanbase? (Ask Michael Nesmith and Jack Nicholson who had helped him and his three cohorts, regarding a certain underrated gem of a movie from 1968 that somehow got a "G" rating despite the allusions, metaphors, some song content, and even certain actors brought in being avante garde. The movie was called "Head", made by the same folk who made "Easy Rider"...)
