Is Titan-A a refit of original Titan?

Ah yes, when one relinquishes and retreats ...,

... it is always customary to lob just one more negative response for good measure.
Watch how it's correctly done.

....

So it's smartass day at the TrekBBS today? Wasn't aware of that. I though we were supposed to be talking about the Titan, not being asses to each other.

My headcanon is that Titan A is a refit, but not a refit of the Luna class Titan as that makes zero sense. It is a refit of an unnamed ship, or perhaps even refit of the original Shangri La Titan if we want to be really cute. Also, Riker briefly commanded this Titan A after he wrecked Luna class Titan, so it is indeed his old ship.

My head canon is that this is the same ship from Nemesis, and that it always looked that way. Anything we saw in Lower Decks doesn’t count, or at best is a different continuity. If it doesn’t take itself seriously, then I don’t have to either. The gold Luna model is just for the people who think otherwise, but can be ignored just like the gold Probert C in TNG.

Yeah, that works. They had two ships needing repairs and used parts of one to resurrect the other. The resulting ship was named Titan. It’s both new and a refit.

But it’s not the original 23rd century Titan, that was only half the size.

Was it? Its 300 metre size was based on the original size of the Connie, but Connie has now been retconned to 450ish metres, so it makes sense that ships with similar components such as Shanri La would be retconned to be larger as well.

Using the Titan A is just a weird choice from the producers. I would have either just used the actual Titan or the Stargazer.

I don’t blame Matalas for wanting a new design for the Titan, as I’ve never liked the Luna class. And I don’t blame him for liking Krause’s Shangri-La class, because it’s a nice design. And I don’t blame him for wanting to make a new ship that resembles the Shangri-La, even though it looks anachronistic. And I suppose I don’t blame him for needing to come up with an explanation as to why the ship looks completely different from the Luna class because Lower Decks already showed it. What I have an issue with is just the ham-fisted explanation he came up with.

He obviously wanted the ship to be the same one mentioned in Nemesis, because PIC is a logical extension of that film. Why he didn’t just go with that rather than make some reference to a refit was probably something he was forced to do to maintain continuity with Lower Decks (even though continuity is not these shows’ strong suit.) This is the kind of thing that annoys me about the mentality of the producers of these shows. They’re so gung-ho about ‘canon’ (read=continuity) but that same canon makes them hamstrung when they want to actually do their own thing.

Probably because the higher ups that care about canon didn't want him to.
They consider Lower Decks to be part of the canon.

I read it but I just don’t understand how that affects the canon.
Also I don’t think the producers care that much about canon. They allowed Discovery and SNW after all. :)

Because Lower Decks is canon and the Luna Class titan showed up on it. It's also in the Titan-A's conference room.

You'd be wrong.
But how does that stop it from showing up in Picard? That’s what I’m not getting
