Is This The New Enterprise?

It's quite clearly the TOS Enterprise slightly altered for aerodymic reasons to be a radio controlled flying toy.

I wouldn't get too excited about this.

That's my take on it as well after looking at those thumbnail pics. I don't think Paramount, Abrams et. al. would radically change the TOS-era Enterprise that much.

Indeed. The E is so iconic that radically changing it up "update" it would piss off enough of the fan base that it wouldn't be lucrative.

And as for the tricorder... yeah, I'm diggin' that too. The phaser looks better still... you'd never know it wasn't a TOS one unless you compare 'em side-by side, but the new one is just a little more sturdy and "real." :)

I see the tricorder and the communicator, but I'm not seeing the phaser anywhere. Could you clarify which picture it's in?
Sorry, I wasn't clear... I was saying that these images (tricorder and communicator) look what I've seen elsewhere of the "TOS-era revised props."

The Tricorder was always the thing I thought was most "dated" out of all of it, and the changes to that are the most severe... the communicator really does look like what you see there, though (less the logo!), if my information is correct. I believe it, but I'm unfortunately not in a situation to share... so you can disregard this as hearsay if you like. Just know that I believe I've seen the real props... whether you think I'm right or not. ;)

The Tricorder always appeared to me to look like one of those home cassette recorders from, say, 1969, that were mass-manufactured by AIWA or Panasonic for the American market. Cheap, dependable, and with basic transistors.

One of the interesting things to look for will be the shape of the new tricorder. Should be fun.

Yeah, I don't see how anyone could seriously be getting bent out of shape over these -- they look to me like the same analogue to the "real" Enterprise as balsa gliders are to real, people-carrying airplanes. They're just toys, not exact replicas of TV and movie starships, and I doubt Abrams has got much to do with these, anyway.

Indeed. In the early '70s, we had a Panasonic cassette recorder that was black with chrome highlights, and even had a black leather shoulder strap attachment. I made a tape of myself whistling to approximate the tricorder sound effect, and voila -- instant tricorder prop. Loved it.
