Ok boys and girls, I found this video on youtube, now whether it is real or not seems to be in some question. However regardless of that if what they show is the new Enterprise  then I CANT WAIT TO SEE THIS NEW FILM!!!! WOO HOO :D :D :D

Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think.

if that link does not work, just go to youtube.com and type “STAR TREK 11 CG ENTERPRISE!” into the search bar, click on the top one and there you go. :)

Nice aleternate universe Enterprise, but not what we're getting in 2008.

* So I've been told *

I like it - I hope the ST XI ship is a bit more streamlined (and yes, not quite as huge), but there are elements here I think they could definitely use.

I've never understood the intense desire to recreate all the props from TOS, unmodified. The key for me is whether they are doing a an actual reboot that respects the continuity, or simply slipping adventures into the timeline. If it is the latter, then yes, use the old stuff. If you are really starting over, then you can/should update the designs.

I wonder... Is it possible we could see the new model at comic-con? Or is it too early?

^ No idea, I just know JJ will be there.
Ask lots of questions !

* Heh heh heh heh heh *

No, that is Gabriel Koerner's "uber kewl" fanwank rape of the Enterprise.

Thankfully, not the Enterprise to be seen in Star Trek XI.

Thats the first time i've seen the model in movement. Prior to that I've just seen photos.

Actually, I must say - its not all that bad. I still want something closer to the original, but if something similar appears onscreen I wont be burning my TOS DVD's in protest.

It works.

Gabe's an outstanding artist in terms of rendering, compositing, all that 3D virtual animation stuff. He really is. And this model is nicely done, but it's NOT the Enterprise we're going to be seeing... it was his own work, for his own purposes.

Actually, go to his thread in "Trek Art" and you can get the WHOLE video... and get a kick out of his version of main phasers firing, the nacelle nose effects, etc.

Really nice work, but not the 1701 we know, and almost certainly not the one we'll be seeing in the movie (he's not working on Trek, he's working on the live-action Speed Racer right now, anyway!)

I like it though. That would've been my idea for the film - take the refit Enterprise from the early movies and change details back to resemble the series version, which is sort of what this version does. It looks good. They couldn't go wrong if that were the actual direction they took.

Actually they're using that model as the refitted Galactica in the reboot they're doing next year.

...Hey, it could happen.

I saw that one a few weeks ago.

I think it is the equivalent of a muscle car upgrade, not keeping with what TOS era ships were all about.

That's my opinion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Gabriel Koerner that extremely nerdy lost cause that gets the spotlight in the first "Trekkies" movie? The guy who made his own version of Star Trek uniforms and wore them to conventions? Whose family's van was decoed to look like a shuttlepod?

That guy is working on the SFX of a major movie?

Let's all be grown-ups here and avoid PERSONAL ATTACKS, K?

And just FYI, Koerner's personal geekiness or lack thereof has ZERO to do with his skills. I don't PERSONALLY like his model, on engineering grounds, and also just basically because it's too much of departure from the classic (though he's brought it closer over time, and as it's gotten that way, I've liked it better). But even if I don't care of his APPROACH, I have to recognize that his skill in IMPLEMENTING it has exceeded anything I'm ever likely to do (my skills lie in entirely different areas).

He's worked on "Enterprise" (4th season fwd), CSI, Battlestar Galactica (new, obviously!), "Serenity," and a bunch of other stuff. Granted, some of the folks here could probably also be doing that, but it DOES take a certain degree of... uh... DEDICATION TO THE FIELD, shall we say, to decide to devote your entire life to doing this sort of stuff.

So, "Superman," seriously... unless you have BETTER qualifications, you might want to temper your attitude a teensie bit...
