Is this inconsiderate...

This really bugs me.

When I'm at an intersection crossing the street with the right of way, and there's a car waiting for me to pass so it can turn right...I jog or even run to get out of their way. Just being nice and plain courteous.

I'm so tired of the slowest walkers in the world crossing, and staring right at you as they do it. Sometimes they start going diagonally, up the street, so it takes them even longer to get out of your way.

Now I know the walker has the right of way, I even believe the walker has moral and ethical rights above that of the driver...but I still can't help thinking people are being egocentric and inconsiderate.

What do you think?

Yeah some pedestrians can be assholes by taking longer than it should to cross but, having occasion of sometimes being a pedestrian myself, I know what it's like to feel like I must run for my life and I hate that so I let allot of it slide when I am driving.

Besides, the LAW is usually in favor of them.

heck a lot of drivers dont even understand that a pedestrian in the cross walk has the right of way.

I'm totally chill about it. I'm not in my car yelling at them and giving them the finger, or anything.

I just know what I do out of what I think is consideration, so therefore it's easy to think that they are not.

There's just a lot of inconsiderate people in the world.

You're right - it's inconsiderate. In my town single white men tend to jog across the walkway, while single and groups of black men take their sweet ass time.

Those few seconds could be long enough for a light to change color -depending on how fast the person is walking, I guess, the intersection and the light- sure some people may not be able to walk fast but that seems to me as trying to support assholery by bringing up a minority.

Sure the pedestrian has the "right of way" bu that doesn't mean he has to be rude and impede others' movement by taking his sweet-assed time going through the crosswalk.

I tend to walk at my normal speed across the crosswalk. Unless the driver is being an asshole (blocking the crosswalk or something like that) in which case I will be as leisurely as I can.

Some drivers are just as rude as pedestrians, or so it seems. Like when you're walking as fast as possible and the car keeps creeping closer and closer out of impatience..

I walk at my normal speed when I cross but that is not very fast. I see no reason why I should rush especially as that causes me pain.

What really annoys me is car drivers that are meant to give way but don't get especially annoyed in its is pouring with rain.

I was at a zebra crossing not long ago when a car stop right over thw crossing and waited for a break in the traffic so that she could turn left. She was totally blocking my way and I couldn't go behind her because the car following her was almost touching her tailgate and there was no room for me to go through. I must have been waiting for almost a minute before she moved.

Technically, pedestrians only have the right of way when they're crossing LEGALLY.

The minute they start jaywalking or walking against the light ... they're on their own.

My favorite version of this is when the person you're holding it for is talking on a cell phone and they have that weird, distracted pause as they reach for the door, making you hold onto it for an extra beat.

Pretty minor, as inconveniences go, but it's annoying.

I usually get out of the way quickly untill I get that one driver that pulls up within an inch of where I'm walking, then decides maybe he should abide by the law and give me the right away. Then all of the sudden I have a leg cramp, and I slow down a bit.

I always try to hurry across for the sake of courtesy as well, and it annoys me when people obviously take their time. Not the elderly or otherwise infirm, of course, just people who are clearly sauntering at my expense. A lot of drivers are rude, too; occasionally when I'm crossing, someone will beep at me to get out of the way-- I'm so startled, I have to stop for a minute.

The first time I held a door open for someone and they walked through without so much as a glance in my direction I was actually pretty shocked. I can't really fathom that sort of attitude. I guess people like that are the sort of people who will mug old ladies or turn in their neighbours to the authorities when the state turns totalitarian.

End of story right there. Sit tight in your climate-controlled vehicle and show some patience. I do not have to run across a road in deference to a car.

And, for what it's worth, I make eye contact with motorists on purpose as both a cyclist and a pedestrian. It's surprisingly effective at stopping them from pulling out in front of me or advancing on me when they should not. I don't know how this can work, but it does.

I try to move quickly through crosswalks when I can as I don't always trust the drivers.

But with on fake hip and the other trying to get one, there are times I just can't move quickly. I don't look my age and I don't use the cane just yet for the sore hip...it comes and goes so I don't need the cane all the time, but when pain hits...sorry the rest of the world could only see it in the look on my face or the hitch in my getalong.

I always say thanks for a door holder, just the way my 'rents and the nuns raised me.
