Is this Big Finish's crowning moment of Fan Wank?

So I've just finished listening to "Fugitive of the Daleks", a story from a few years ago that I had been in no rush to get to since I'm not a fan of Stephen Noonan's 1st Doctor.

It's a weird story, part-sequel to, part-remake of "The Chase", written and produced to be as 1960's authentic as possible and played as a comedy even with the Daleks.

But it's the ending that puts it right up there on the list of stories written to answer a question no one really asked.

For most of the story 'The Doctor' we're following is actually the robot Doctor from "The Chase" and then at the end the real Doctor leaves him in France where he becomes the Abbot of Amboise, the Doctor's double from "The Massacre". Because we all needed that explained to us, obviously.

If nothing else, I kinda like this retcon personally? And if you want worse retcons, just google search "Older Nyssa".

If these audios were a mass-market product, I'd probably say that web of connections is a bit egregious. But I don't imagine that anyone is buying and listening to these who isn't already hip deep in the lore. Big Finish is catering to their dedicated audience, I guess.

Just look at all the connections and explanations and things we've gotten in the Star Trek and Star Wars books and comics over the last several decades.
