Is there any chance David Tenant's departure might just be a stunt?

Re: Is there any chance David Tenant's departure might just be a stunt

As much as I like Tenant it's time for him to move on. So I hope it's not a stunt.

Seriously doubt it as well, as that would just be way too cruel a trick to pull on fans. Now I could see if they had let the rumor spread that he was going to leave, and were simply vague when asked by the press. But coming right out and saying he's leaving then doing a "Ha-ha! Just kidding, I'll be back next season!" or just changing his mind would hurt more than help.

Ity worked great for Beanie Babies...

It's no stunt. We have already had one onscreen "fake" regeneration with Tennant. This one will be for real.

Will the next guy be as popular as Tennant? I don't know. But, ask some people, and he was never as good as Eccleston.

Damn straight! ;)

Why is there always someone who thinks things like this are a stunt? I remember when it was announced Eccleston was leaving there were those who said it was only a stunt. Hell, even when Enterprise's cancellation was announced there were those insisting that was only a stunt.

Accept the facts, folks. Tennant is leaving. I'll miss him as much as the next fan, but it's time to let go and accept the fact that he really is leaving.

The get out for Tennant (and Piper) is now firmly inbuilt after Journey's End I reckon. I won't be at all surprised to see the 10th doc returning, but hopefully they won't do a multi Doctor episode/special for several years. I wouldn't like 10 to turn up until 11 has had at least a season and a half/two seasons to get his feet under the table.

Yep. It would be horribly irresponsible of the staff to do a multi-Doctor installment for quite some time. David Tennant is leaving the show as perhaps the most popular actor to ever play the role, having been the veritable face of the show for more than three years, and establishing himself as one of the most famous actors in all of Britain. For young people, for many new fans of the show, for a lot of Americans -- David Tennant is the Doctor.

To bring him back merely a year, or even two years, after his departure would be terribly unfair to whomever is tapped as his replacement. That actor is already going to have enough trouble in his first season or two with fans and critics shrieking, "He's not Tennant." The last thing the show needs to do is bring Tennant back as his memory is just starting to fade from viewers' minds, reminding everyone that no matter how good this new guy is, he's not their favorite.
On the other hand, by the time the show's 50th anniversary rolls around in 2013, Tennant will have been gone for three years, so that might be about the right time to do another multi-Doctor story - The Four Doctors, maybe, with McCoy, McGann, Tennant, and Eleven (assuming Eccleston doesn't want to play)?
