Is there an episode of TOS that you haven't seen?

I've seen them all (TOS that is) but I remember that The Empath was my 'last' unseen one back in Agugst ot 1987...just in time for TNG.
Still haven't watched that stinker since. Heck, maybe it's not a stinker, but it felt like one to me back in '87, when I was 14.

Interesting. "The Empath" is my second-favorite Classic Trek episode, behind "Amok Time." You've gotta love the character interactions.:vulcan:

A friend of mine and a huge Trek fan had not seen "Space Seed" until The Wrath of Khan was about to hit theaters. In honor of that, the local station played the episode, and my friend finally saw it before going to see Star Trek II.

I love The Empath, it's one of my season 3 favorites (next to Is There in Truth No Beauty?, The Tholian Web, All Our Yesterdays and The Enterprise Incident).

I have to agree that there were some great third-season episodes. The Tholian Web is a terrific story, and The Enterprise Incident as well.

The Apple is interesting because Kirk's decision in it is quite controversial; A Taste of Armageddon is not bad; Operation: Annihilate has some good Spock moments that make it IMO better than I expected even though people don't seem to rate it; Patterns of Force is very cheesy, but some parts can make you laugh because of the cheese; Arena could be OK if the fight and Gorn didn't look so incredibly fake and cheesy, but you don't lose much by not seeing it if you know what happens. The Deadly Years and Court Martial are kinda meh, not bad but not very memorable. The Alternative Factor is compltely forgettable and Catspaw is awful. Not as awful as Mudd's Women, but close.

As for the Q from the title: I haven't seen some of the season 3 episodes (Spock's Brain, And the Children Shall Lead, The Way to Eden, Turnabout Intruder) because of all the bad things I've heard about them. But I intend to pick up my courage and watch them one of these days.

Thanks for the feedback. I will take it into consideration. I think "Turnabout Intruder" is good. Despite it not being written to be a series finale, I actually think it's a better series finale than the finales of "Voyager" and "Enterprise" and a less flawed one than the finale of "Deep Space Nine".

People criticize it for being sexist, but I don't really feel that or let that bother me when I watch it. I think it has a good story and exceptional performances from Shatner, Doohan, Nimoy, and Kelly. Shatner is over-the-top, but that's what his character calls for in the episode, so I liked it.

I do like a fair number of season 3 episodes ("The Enterprise Incident", "Elaan of Troyus", "Day of the Dove", "The Tholian Web", "Whom Gods Destroy", and "Turnabout Intruder"), but I hated "And the Children Shall Lead" and "Plato's Stepchildren" so much that I don't want to watch the episodes I haven't seen for fear they'll be that bad. Season 1 and 2 episodes I didn't like mostly bugged me because I thought they were boring, but those episodes were just offensively stupid.

Yeah um...no. I used to fantasize that I somehow missed an episode in my youth...so when I finally got the episode info I was horrified and really disappointed that I had seen them all. I wept.

Yes, there are a bunch I haven't seen. I'm really late to "Star Trek" as I only started watching it last year (though I've been watching TNG since childhood). I never bought the DVDs and when I started watching re-runs on TV, I couldn't commit to watching it every day due to laziness or other commitments, so I missed several episodes in every season.

By the time I got to season 3, I was getting annoyed with the show and purposely skipped a few episodes out of frustration. I was thinking of maybe starting a poll to ask which episodes people would most strongly recommend of ones I haven't seen yet, but I guess here is as good a place as any to ask. I liked a few season 3 episodes, but the episodes of it that I didn't like soured me on the season so much that I don't have much desire to see the episodes I missed.

I am a little curious about "The Way to Eden" based on what I heard about Spock in that episode, but generally I'd rather not bother with my gaps in season 3, so I'll just list the season 1 and 2 episodes I've missed.

Season 1
"Charlie X"
"What Are Little Girls Made Of?"
"The Galileo Seven"
"Court Martial"
"Arena" (I know about the Gorn because I've seen his fight with Kirk on Youtube, I've seen "In A Mirror, Darkly", and it is popular as an action figure, but I have never seen the rest of the episode)
"The Alternative Factor"
"A Taste of Armageddon"
"Operation -- Annihilate!"

Season 2
"Catspaw"
"Who Mourns for Adonais?"
"The Doomsday Machine"
"The Changeling"
"The Apple"
"The Deadly Years"
"The Immunity Syndrome"
"Patterns of Force"

To each person, I ask which episode(s) would you most recommend and why? If I'm convinced enough that the episode is worth watching, I'll try to go out of my way to make sure I don't miss the episode the next time it's on the TV channel where I watch "Star Trek". :)
The Doomsday Machine is the best on that list - one of my favorite Trek episodes. I also like The Changeling (story is similar to TMP, but it's a lot more fun), The Galileo Seven, The Immunity Syndrome, Charlie X, Who Mourns For Adonais and What Are Little Girls Made Of.

I'd second The Doomsday Machine, Galilieo Seven, Immunity Syndrome, Charlie X, and possibly Who Mourns For Adonais.

Doomsday Machine is one of the best eps of all TOS, and Galilieo is very interesting, especially for its focus on Spock (although the rendering of the hostile "natives" is purely awful). OTOH, if I never see Spock's Brain again it will be too soon. I was horrified even to see it referenced in a ST novel.

I think I've seen all the TOS eps at least 2-3 times - I started watching in September 1966. :rommie:

I started watching just a little after that, and it's upwards of 50 times each for my favourite eps, a mere twenty or so for the rest.:wtf:

I have most of season three TOS to discover. :)

They are the only "undiscovered" episodes of any Trek incarnation for me, so I will be kinda sad when I finally get to watch them. I'm currently rewatching the series in order. It's the first time I've seen them since my first viewing as a kid in 1991. I think the BBC aired them after showing The Best Of Both Worlds part I.

I've seen a few more episodes on TV since I last posted in this thread:

"Arena"
"A Taste of Armageddon"
"Catspaw"
"The Doomsday Machine"
"The Changeling"
"The Apple"
"Patterns of Force"

They were all quite good, and "Arena" was much better than I expected to be (having only seen the Gorn scene before seeing the whole episode), but I wouldn't call any of them best of the series. I think "The Doomsday Machine" is the best of this lot of episodes.

Still haven't seen:

"Charlie X"
"What are Little Girls Made Of?"
The Galileo Seven"
"Court Martial"
"The Alternative Factor"
"Operation-- Annihilate!"
"Who Mourns for Adonais?"
"The Deadly Years"
"The Immunity Syndrome"

and a few third season episodes like "Spectre of the Gun" and "The Way to Eden".

I have the DVDs but I still haven't watched Requiem for Methuselah or For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky. For some reason people keep warning me off of these episodes. I'd love other opinions on this.

By the end of 1971 or '72 (it was a long time ago) I'd seen them all but for "The Cage" on its own.

But memory has a way of playing tricks on you. When I saw the first digitally remastered versions about ten years ago on Space I was seeing snippets in many episodes I for the life of me couldn't remember. Not that many but enough. I'm pretty sure that I had seen them all in entirety before but years of edited reruns probably blurred my recall. When I finally got the three boxed dvd season sets I'd again catch the rare snippet here and there that I wasn't sure if I'd seen or not. And the boxed sets is where I finally saw "The Cage" in all its restored glory. :techman:

Now over the years I've had the periodic dream where I was watching new never-before-seen TOS episodes. I can't recall any details presently but I do recall that I awoke disappointed that it was just a dream.

I've always been interested in reading about potential TOS story ideas that never got made as well as the occasional book based on a story idea that never got filmed. David Gerrold wrote one, The Galactic Whirlpool, I believe which didn't impress me after I'd read it. The Joy Machine by James Gunn is another which I haven't read yet.

Absolutely agree about "Doomsday." Also recommend "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" "The Galileo Seven," "Court Martial," "Arena," "A Taste of Armageddon," and "The Changeling."

<snip>

There are a couple of episodes of TNG that I've deliberately not see. One had Joe Piscoplo as a comedian, and another was the episode with David Ogden-Stiers. It was just too close to the end of MASH for me to see him in a science-fiction area. I kept thinking that Radar O'Reilly would come in and have all the forms filled out. But maybe that's just me!

Wait....have you not seen "Half a Life" yet? That's the one with Ogden-Stiers. Please tell me you've watched it...maybe you didn't care for it...but please tell me you've given it at least one chance??

For me, that is one of the most moving episodes ever acted or written. Cast aside your preconceived ideas about Ogden-Stiers...this episode is so terribly heartbreaking. And an additional bonus is Michelle Forbes (who i dispise as Ensign Ro),...in this is she is amazing!

Promise me that if you haven't EVER watched this one, you will give it a chance! And, if i misunderstood your post and you have seen it (and didn't like it), well then, fair enough!

As for me, i've seen all of TOS more than a few times each (although there are episodes i havent seen in ages, just due to lack of time)...and i look forward to rewatching again in the coming months now that i will be getting seasons 2 & 3 for xmas on Blu-ray.

I hadn't realised till I saw it only two or three years ago, that I had entirely missed "Dagger of the Mind" during its run on TV in the 1980s.

A pleasant surprise, like taking a winter coat out of the cupboard and finding a bank note in the pocket.

Season 1
"Charlie X" Good. Kind of WNMHGB-Lite. Charlie is a creepy little man-child. Uhura's songs are always unpleasant.
"What Are Little Girls Made Of?" Dunno.
"The Galileo Seven" Awesome.
"Court Martial" Very good. But lawyers should not be Operations Department.:scream:
"Arena" (I know about the Gorn because I've seen his fight with Kirk on Youtube, I've seen "In A Mirror, Darkly", and it is popular as an action figure, but I have never seen the rest of the episode)Awesome.
"The Alternative Factor" Incredibly bad.
"A Taste of Armageddon" Very good. Involves Federation-authorized genocide.
"Operation -- Annihilate!"Goofy, but okay.

Season 2
"Catspaw" Goofy, and bad.
"Who Mourns for Adonais?"Goofy, but good.
"The Doomsday Machine"Very good.
"The Changeling"Bad.
"The Apple"Dunno.
"The Deadly Years"Dunno.
"The Immunity Syndrome"Goofy, but good.
"Patterns of Force"Dunno, but I'm going to say bad, because it has space Nazis, and that's stupid.

You can tell which ones I need to see from the list... although, actually, I'm sure I have seen them, just not in years and years.

I still have yet to see The Cage, though most of it is shown in the Menagerie episodes. But as for the rest, I've seen them many times :}

Yep! That's me as well. I've seen The Cage, only in the "flashbacks" used in the Menagerie. And from what I saw in the Menagerie, I'm pretty meh about seeing the Cage. Maybe I"ll try to find it one day. :p

As for recommendations I'd go with Mirror, Mirror.
