Is there a trek convention in Vegas every august?

Not having been to a Trekkie Convention, I'm curious to know: Are they all combined with Comic Book Conventions and the like? Aren't there any purely STAR TREK conventions? Is this how it always was? That aspect of it kind of turns me off. I was never into comics, as a kid. There was a brief moment, there, when I tried to get into graphic novels, but they were just more artsy about their comics, that's all. I might've read four, total. So, what is it? The cosplay that unites these two entities under one roof ... one ticket? Some of these comicbook fans seem even more whacked than the Trekkies (... and they are fairly crazy).

Creation runs Star Trek only conventions. Like the one in Las Vegas.

I've never been to one with comic book stuff, other than a few vendors in the vendors room.

Once in a great while you used to get general science-fi conventions from Creation (I went to one which had Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, and BSG).

Has anyone been to Vegas convention?

Is it worth going?

I've heard it's the biggest most badass convention out there.

By the way, does anyone know a site or group that compiles where Star Trek conventions that are outside Creations purview, I couldn't find anything.

I'm going to it for the first time this year. Taking my wife who's Star Trek knowledge consist of Kirk & Spock & that one Scott Bakula was in.

We're working on a little more knowledge but not sure how far I'll get her by August....

I'd rather burn to death than attend a comic book convention. That said, the "Trek Only" conventions are a lot of fun.

... Very good, Sir!

And I'm not in any rush to go to a STAR TREK Convention. Just curious what the general opinion is. I remember seeing Rod Roddenberry being interviewed at a convention, hawking his goods. He was selling mock-ups of TOS communicator kits for $99.99 and I thought ... what a way to make a living! It got me to scratching the ol' Brain Box and I've come up with some ideas on how I, too, might suckle at the teat of Trek Merchandising ...

I've been to tons of them, and I always have a great time. The vendors room, the people watching, the talks and photo ops.

Creation gets a lot of flak, and some of it is deserved, but not all of it. Yes they will squeeze every single penny out of you. But there are so many levels of attendance and options for your weekend, that there's something for everyone. You get what you pay for, just like anything else in life.
