Is there a canon reference to Breen Confed. location in space?

Deep Space Nine -- Dominion War

I have been searching for information (canon) as to the actual location of the Breen homeworld and their 'confederacy' in space. The only reference I have been able to find is a comment that a Klingon fleet of the 2nd Empire set out to destroy the Breen and was never heard from again.

Two conflicting references put them first in the Alpha Quadrant then the Beta Quadrant. If memory serves, the Klingons (late in the war) made mention of fighting on two fronts; with the Federation on one side of their space which faces the Alpha Quadrant and the Breen at their backs, which would indeed put the Breen homeworld in the Beta Quadrant.

References gratefully appreciated. :)

None that I'm aware of. You might try the Star Trek Starcharts book in the stores. Granted, it's not strictly canon, but as an 'official' publication, it's the next best thing.

Thanks...I was also wondering if the Star Charts in the bookstores are 'current' as of Season 7 of DS9 since the Encyclopedia has ceased being updated and printed. At the moment, I'm not able to go out, but I have been informed I must go out tomorrow in person, my family and friends cannot do this errand for me. :( Luckily, there's a Barnes and Noble across the parking lot from the place I have to go.

I appreciate your rapid response. Have a great weekend.

Well, seeing as Season 7 of DS9 aired nearly a decade ago, I'd hope the recently released Star Charts would be up to date. :)

the star charts are up-to-date as far as S1 of ENT and NEM.

(Bassen's Rift is included, references to stuff from ENT inc. Suliban Helix, Denobula and other bits, but there's nothing eg, on Azati Prime, Delphic Expanse and Berengaria's totally oout-of-place for the 4th season episode 'Bound')

I happen to have a scan of Star Trek Star Charts by Geoffrey Mandel of the area you want. I was printed in 2002. Hopefully people will consider this only a minor violation of copyright laws...:wtf:

Thank you, Commander Dnoth. I can see my "Thanks to the following..." list is getting longer by the day. :) And that would explain how and why part of the Breen Confederacy bumps up against the Klingon Empire. Very interesting. Since the "world" my protagonist's House is responsible for administering is in the back of beyond within Klingon space this fits perfectly. I would like for the story to honor those who worked so hard for the "universe" of DS9 to fit together neatly.

Happy St. Pat's Day! (I'm part Irish! ;))

You're welcome. Though, I just re-read my post. I was not printed in 2002...It was. :)

Also, there is a theory that I like to explain some canon statements (i.e. DS9 is near the Klingon Border). It says, the Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians (and maybe Breen?) are 'above' (or 'below') the Federation. I personally like that idea. One thing Star Charts, can't display well is three dimensions.

Yeah, one of the toughest things to remember is the "z" axis-and Dnoth-beautiful chart-we need a sticky post with references-I have a ship chart, myself, that gives comparative size differences. And that's just pretty, that chart of yours. But I said that already-no more beer for Mistral!

isn't there a line in TNG about the breen being located somewhere in the vicinity of the black cluster?

almost certain there is...

It's from Star Trek: Star Charts, Mistral. :) Not sure whether or not it would be kosher to keep it up on a sticky or not.

Though, we can't really post copyrighted material. :clears throat: (...too often ;)) I agree it would be nice to have an "Author's Resources" thread. There are a lot of websites and reference material out there...though, I think everyone goes to Memory Alpha any more.

For the record, even the Pocket authors go to Memory Alpha. ;)

y,know, TerriO-if we had a sticky thread with a built-in link to Memory Alpha-now that would be handy! My stupid laptop crashes if I try to open IE twice from scratch although it handles opening links like the one in your sig line. Don't know why(yes I do-its a piece of crap Thinkpad with squat for memory). Anyway, an Authors Resource thread might be handy. Just a thought....(tugs on sleeve repeatedly) you know?(taps on shoulder) We could fill it with links to various useful reference sites(tugs sleeve again) and such, like a Klingon Dictionary site(sleeve seperates from shoulder) and some of those ship statistic sites(begins, gently, smacking moderator with now independent sleeve). What do you think?

Its not the program-its the crappy computer. I use firefox half the time but the comp just sux.

I love how these threads meander onto every other topic... ;)

Sorry to hear about your comp, Mistral.

Well, this was kind of a limited question which was pretty effectively answered already. So I guess some wandering is to be expected. And an Authors' Resource thread would be kinda handy...

Tell ya what, if you don't start a thread in a few hours, I will. Memory Alpha doesn't have everything and threads have been made for 'lesser' reasons. If it catches on, we could ask the mod. to sticky it.
