Is the Star Trek Remastered that much better than the standard DVD's?

Re: Is the Star Trek Remastered that much better than the standard DVD

I was learning to live with them until The Doomsday Machine when the effects gave a completely different feel to one scene ("she was attacked!" ...as close as we are now Captain, that observation now registers far too high on the "Duh Scale" to allow you to continue as Captain). Now I'm back to give me what I loved.
EEE. I agree with you that the remastering of The Doomsday Machine was iffy at the best. The redone Constellation was excellent, and getting the scale of the Enterprise-shuttlecraft-planet killer right in relationship to each other was something that needed to be done, but I thought the planet killer itself looked terrible and the strafing shots of its surface by the Enterprise were cartoonish. This episode was a missed opportunity in my book.

When done well (The Corbomite Manuever), the remastering is a joy to watch. When done poorly (the Companion in Metamorphosis), it, too drives me back to the originals.

I think Balance of Terror is still the biggest missed opportunity. It's a shame they did that episode with the old model and at the time were trying to have the new effects resemble the old ones almost exactly. They should have practiced on some easier episodes first and done that one later. Maybe they wanted to draw people in?

The remastered versions look cool and all, but when I watch TOS I want to see the episodes as I've seen them all of my life. I get all nostalgic about being ten years old and staying up until 1am on saturday night(which is when the local fox affiliate used to show them)to watch an episode. I don't want to see some fancy new cgi effects and be reminded that it's 2008. 2008 sucks!:rommie:
