Is the enterprise still constitution class?

Since it appears to be the first of its kind, with no Constitution preceding it, I'm going to guess 'no.'

However, I suppose future films could show us other ships of the same class, which could be older that the Enterprise, so it's up in the air.

Although it isn't mentioned onscreen, most of the official tie-in websites (and I believe on the dossier on the official movie site), it's listed as a Constitution Class.

I guess if there were already some constitution class ships made before the Kelvin incident then the enterprise could be a new class, if none of them were made, then could all have been delayed.

The leading fanon explanation seems to be along these lines: the original universe Constitution Class was scrapped or never started, due to the "holy crap the Romulans have what?!" reaction to the Narada-Kelvin incident. Then the "New Federation Heavy Cruiser" project was re-started years later, after the engineers had time to design and submit a new proposal. (If you look back to Pentagon weapon programs in the Cold War, there is plenty of RL precedent for this kind of thing - The Soviet Typhoon class strategic missile submarine, for instance, caused a lot of panic in the U.S. Navy at the time it was revealed.)

Since the movie tie-in materials still call Big-E a Constitution Class vessel - and it's highly unlikely they will want to change this - we might assume that the Constitution (NCC-1700?) was for all intents and purposes a prototype, and the Enterprise was the second in her class.

There is a document floating about which is apparently canon, which states that the Constitution (NCC-1700) was the prototype of the Constitution class, but there was some structual faults which couldn't be fixed on the NCC-1700, so they began construction on the Enterprise. (In the same document, it states that the woman who designed the Constitution class vessels was KIA on board the Kelvin during the attack by Nero, from the information given she was the woman sucked out of the bulkhead and on to the Kelvins hull, then another person took over the project and pushed it back a few years, which is why it looks different) :).

I saw that there was a plaque by the Port Aft Turbolift on the new Bridge.

If we could see a closeup of that, we'd have the Canon answer.

I'm sure Orci and Bob have both said it's a Constitution somewhere, I remember reading it.
