Is That His Real Name?

^ just when I thought everything was discussed to death after all those years, we are discussing whether the spelling of "Geordi" is canon

Because everything has been discussed to death after all these years, we are discussing whether the spelling of "Geordi" is canon. :D

Would closing credits count as canon? If so:

Would closing credits count as canon? If so:

Yes, closing credits of the movies and..

I thought the episode "Conundrum" would've shown LaForge's -- or is it Laforge's? -- personnel file, but apparently his wasn't shown onscreen. Nor was Worf's or Riker's. So do we canonically know the spelling of Worf or Riker? Maybe it's Wharf and Ryker?

Um... all the names are in the opening opening credits of the show. Did everyone forget that? How would that not be canon, it's part of the show!

The credits list everyone and their names, sure, but the credits also sometimes list characters that never existed. Insurrection's closing credits list an actor who played "Young Ru'afo", though no younger version of Ru'afo was featured. And the closing credits of The Undiscovered Country listed Nichelle Nichols as "Uhuru". So did her name suddenly change after decades of being Uhura?

The closing credits, usually by various union rules, show everyone involved with the creation of the movie. So "Young Ru'afo" may not have been shown, but scenes with him were either filmed and not used or rehearsed but not filmed. That would give him credit. Only when someone does not want credit, are they omitted. I believe in Star Wars: A New Hope, James Earl Jones, didn't want his name in the credits.

I don't remember what thread mentioned it but Brent Spiner got credit for the story because he came up with the idea of Data's death. He didn't write the scene, but he contributed to a major plot point, so he got credit.
