It doesn't have heart and warmth if this week's episode was any indication. The humor mostly came from mocking either Boimler or Mariner in this episode, which at times felt mean-spirited, which is as far from heart and warmth as you can get. The best humor doesn't come at the expense of any particular character and doesn't feel mean-spirited.

This is highly subjective but it wasn't at all any of those things. The whole point of Mariner and Boimler (and LD in general) is that Starfleet isn't all All-Stars and big damn heroes. Some of them are intelligent but awkward screw ups who despite this, manage to uphold Starfleet ideals and do the right thing. We're supposed to laugh at Mariner and Boimler but love them all the same. It works for me.
After Charades I was starting to think how this show is starting to remind me of lower decks. After the crossover and the musical trailer now I’m starting to think it reminds me of Farscape. That’s not a bad thing.
Because the Musical is giving me Buffy Vibes, I'm thinking it reminds me more in style and tone to Buffy more than Farscape. Farscape was a bit wacky comedy (Which totally worked for that series).

So after posting my “no” I find out they’re doing a musical episode (seriously WTF?) that crosses a line, I think I’ll skip that one and just pretend it didn’t happen.

I have to admit that as soon as I read about the upcoming musical episode, I cringed a little bit. I'm not a fan of musicals. But considering how well this show has been made so far, I trust that it will be in good taste, and will of course give it a shot.
Yes, its too goofy. The average Lower Decks looks like In the Pale Moonlight, tonally speaking, compared to SNW Season 2. The hijinks episodes of SNW season 1 were absolute dogshit but there was only 1-2 of them, but now that is literally all the show is, stupid comedy hijinks that aren't even funny. Lower Decks works because it was a comedy from day one, and quite frankly its writers are just better at comedy, and also at staying generally respectful to the franchise while also being funny. Strange New Worlds Season 2 has mostly been unfunny bullshit that also tends to screw over continuity and characterization for shitty plots/gags that suck regardless.
I honestly would almost rather be watching Michael Burnham whisper-cry while being the main character of the entire universe for 40 minutes then watch most of the stuff thats happened this season in SNW, we're getting to the point where
the magic space child that destroyed dilithium
is almost less stupid then the average episode of SNW, and thats a very dire situation to be in. Hell, Threshold might stop being the series go to joke episode if SNW keeps going downhill like it has been.

Truth, but it is merely one opinion among many and can remain unremarked upon even (especially) if it doesn't agree with yours.
I'm sure you may have noticed that certain personalities relish in striking nerves, stepping on toes, pushing buttons, etc. The less these personalities are, say, fed, the less interest they have in posting to elicit responses rather than merely stating their opinion.
And in any case, pointing out that someone's opinion is different than your own, or in the minority, or whatever, comes off as defensive and petulant, when you can merely accept that not everyone will agree with you on everything and press on.

The problem is that many of the naysayers always seem to come across as being very pedantic and they tend to lean heavily into the idea that only their interpretations are correct.
That kinda posting is always going to incur somewhat wrathful responses.

This is all well and good but my argument is that the post I was responding to was making grand and sweeping pronouncements that are meant to be taken as accepted truth even if in fact it is a minority opinion held by a minority of people on this board and very likely in the wild. You assert that there might be a “silent majority” of people agreeing with what I am describing as a minority opinion but the little data/evidence we have regarding audience preferences seems not to bear this out. Which matters. People holding a minority opinion are certainly entitled to do so but they are not entitled to decide that their minority opinion is actually the more “true” one.
Edited to add: the petulance seems pretty localized to one camp my dude and it isn’t mine
Everyone assumes it will be a comedy episode (it probably will) but the Buffy musical episode was a heart wrencher. IIRC it was less comedy than most Buffy episodes.
This is where, as always, I'm compelled to point out that XENA did the musical-ep thing before BUFFY -- and, yes, "The Bitter Suite" was also a heart-wrencher.
(No disrespect to BUFFY intended; it's just that whenever the the subject of musical eps come up, folks always seem to cite BUFFY as the touchstone, while forgetting about XENA.)
I cannot understand the resistance to a musical episode, and I say that as someone who came late to appreciating musicals. It's far less weird a sci-fi conceit than many that Star Trek has done.
And musicals are built to advance character arcs quickly, which should pay off well in such a short season; unless they do it badly, it really ought to be a character-rich story.
And since the whole idea of people breaking into song in a musical is to express that which cannot be suitably captured in words, it promises an emotional high leading into the finale.
Humor is an odd thing. Jackie Chan once said that the Rush Hour movies would not be considered funny in China (I personally do not know what the box office for those films were in China or if they were even released there). It's also unclear how qualified Jackie Chan is to supposedly speak for most Chinese people.
I was born in America, but I had a very strict Asian upbringing. It's possible that this has affected my view on shows like Lower Decks, which apparently enough viewers (I'm assuming mostly American, but maybe other Western countries as well) find hilarious but I don't. People accuse me in real life of not having a sense of humor, but I think anyone who's seen my frequent jokes here, even if they don't find them funny, will be forced to admit that I find different things funny.
Which gets me back to whether it's a cultural or background thing that determines one's sense of humor.
