Is Sluggo Cola an actual cola?

Or is that what the UT translates Ferengi gleep-gloop as for non-Ferengi speakers? It would have to have extract of kola nut to be a cola.

Slug-o-Cola was a brand of Ferengi beverage which contains 43% live algae in every bottle.

"Drink Slug-o-Cola, and keep your teeth that lovely shade of green."

"Drink Slug-o-Cola! The slimiest cola in the galaxy!"

Ah, in some places "cola" is just shorthand for any soda drink. So I guess it's just a name.

Plus there's a good chance that modern Cola has no longer any trace Kola nut extract in it ;)

As Therin writes it seems to be a mainly algae-based drink. Or at least the advertisements claim that, similar to the example of modern Cola not containing any actual Kola nut, the Ferengi would be the first to replace the "43% real live algae" with a cheaper substitute.

Another question: Are there (or were there ever) any slugs in it?

Yes. The best part is that, in some areas, it's also called "Slurm"...
