Is Rochester NY a nice place to visit?

bigdaddy, fear not. You will be treated like fresh meat. Only do be careful. There are barebackers there. My best friend, for instance, is HIV+ and a barebacker. I have given him a lot of crap for it, but he tells me to mind my own business. Isn't it my business now, since he's having seizures now? If not now, when? When I carry his beir to his grave? *shrug*

So I've mentioned the Forum. I'm sure you'll be welcomed. They do have a gay community, and pride parade, and all that. Which college is your friend attending?

He goes to Rochester Institute of Technology, I think.

I don't get barebacking at all, the way condoms are made now you can't even tell you are wearing one. Just stick a damn condom on! Idiots. Unless you have been dating for years and trust the guy and have been test it's insanely stupid. Condoms are free (but I hate that type) to like a buck a piece. A buck is much cheaper than any drugs that you would have to take with a STD!

I wouldn't have a friend like that, just throw him under the bus, literally, incredibly stupid.

There's actually a kind of weird thing about gayness and RIT. See, they've got the NTID there, too, the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Well, here's the weird gay thing, there are quite a few gays who are learning to be hearing facilitators among the deaf students ... must be a sympathetic thing among less-enfranchised people? Anyway, there is a deaf gay community, as well.

I used to hang with people there, mostly in the liberal arts areas, which are actually strong despite it being a technical college. It's been a while, but if things haven't changed much this is due to all the students in the film studies area. They had some very modern equipment back in the day, and I'm sure they still have the cutting edge stuff. One of the poetry teachers is a personal friend, and several of the deaf poets have moved on, but I am sure it is still a happening thing. It was all Ginsberg's doing. They call him "bird brain" (in sign) because that was what he called himself when he visitted them. He basically told them that ASL is a language and they should consider composing directly in sign and use a speaking translator, instead of the other way around. What a cool guy he was! So, yeah, RIT has some serious gay stuff happening.

As for my friend, well, he's been my friend for 25 years. Now that he's sick I won't throw him under the bus, of course. But yeah, idiotic. So I thought I'd warn you that they are there in Roch-cha-cha. I'm glad to read that you are wise about that! :)

It is swimmable. In the summer months they open the beaches at Lake Ontario State Park and Hamlin Beach State Park. People bring families, picnics, pets. It's still the "blue Ontario's shore" that Whitman immortalized.

Someone once told me that RIT was originally going to be called South Henrietta Institute of Tech.....

My bad, he actually goes to University of Rochester. I wish he went to a bigger school because University of Rochester seems really small.
