Is Quark a Pimp?

There are (as usual with Trek) huge implications for the tech blithely introduced onscreen.
If you can program a holosuite to "accommodate" your sexual fantasies while also being able to program holograms that can look like anyone you want...ickiness ensues.

Should certain holodeck depictions be illegal? Who knows?

But even if something is banned, it's 100% certain that some resourceful individuals will find clandestine ways to make it available anyway (just like they do in the present day). If Quark can make a profit from illegal or reprehensible activities, and he thinks he can get away with it, he will probably go ahead and do it like any "good" Ferengi. He wasn't above dealing in arms or trying to create a sexual simulation of Major Kira.

If Quark was pimpin' out the Dabo girls, that would bring down the credibility of the character since he tries to challenge the stereotypes he gets as a Ferengi. Too, I'm sure an episode or two would address that like one episode addressed the fact that Quark was underpaying his staff and not granting them proper leave time.

With that said, it's obvious the holodecks are usually used for more 'naughty' purposes (e.g. the Vulcan Love Slave program).

It is interesting how the writers embrace inter-species sex but adhere to opposite sex monogamy and marriage. A Trill/Klingon marriage in the 23rd century looks like & means basically the same thing as a late 20th century human marriage. Sexual morality in the future seems pretty rooted in Earthling 1990s. The only time we see anything different it is portrayed in a "amoral" parallel universe.

Let's see. Kirk was married to the Enterprise, Scottie was married to the engines (but had some alcohol on the side), Picard was married to discipline, Riker was (mostly) married to the holodeck, Data was married to curiosity, Quark was married to money, Janeway was married to authority, Chakotay was married to faux peyote, the EMH was married to personal growth, Archer was married to exporation, Tripp was married to wide-eyed curiosity, Mayweather was married to the helm, and Hoshi was married to linguistics. A total of three marriages were depicted on the show, making them far from the norm in the Trek universe.

It's a pity this happened only in the comics, but there was actually a very touching storyline about Scotty's marriage and how it affected him at various points in his life. Linky
