Is Primeval New World worth watching?

Bummer, it sounds like it ended up being pretty good in the long run.

I've got my tapes from my Canadian friend for the first 9 episodes, and the last 4 was mailed to me yesterday, so, I will be starting to watch and burn to DVD tonight.

I hope they work something out with other investors, Dinosaur shows are not common, and certainly not ones that last beyond a single season

For Christmas you need to buy your friend a DVDR, which will save them on postage and you on converting low res vhs into barely watchable rips.

Besides it's the least you can do.

Isn't it more illegal to be mailing vhs tapes than it is to download from the internet?

That's pirated material physically crossing state lines and international borders.

Multiple felonies, and then you have to deal with Interpol.

What if every ad worked?

If every advert you saw in the station breaks during your favourite show compelled you to purchase that product?

Every car, ever cellphone and every hamburger.

Watching tv without advertising is a complete theft, because you are depriving your self of the opportunity to be brainwashed poorly into wasting your money on shitty products you don't need. You have an implied contract with your local station to give their brainwashing a chance and if you're turning the volume off or fast forwarding with your dvdr through the advertising that's simply poor sportsmanship.

I doubt anyone in authourity cares, but snailmailing vhstapes is still piracy.

Speaking of laws no one cares about...

Although not enforced, legally the government where I live can enter my house and magnetically erase any (nonprerecordedstorbought) video tapes that they suspect which I may have watched more than once. Video tapes are only permissible for '"timeshifting" once. Subsequent views are piracy and criminal.

So, I watched up to Episode 5 yesterday and I'm enjoying the show. I'm really liking the characters alot, they have good chemistry together, and they did a good job making me like the team members that leave the team, so, that their loss meant something to me. Evan running and crying to Miss Finch at the end of Episode 5, was powerful, IMHO.

The show has been doing so poorly on Syfy that they are going to just burn off the remainder of the series (6 episodes) in one day during a 13-hour marathon of the series, instead of airing the show normally through August as originally planned. They are doing the same with Sinbad.

The Primeval: New World marathon will be on August 10, 10AM-11PM, with the "new" episodes starting at 5PM.

I think it's safe to say that the possibility of the show continuing is now extinct.

The show was cancelled back in January by it's Canadian network...there was never a possibility of it continuing regardless of how it performed on Syfy. Sorry.

The banner ads at this site have been telling me on and off to subscribe to my local cable company so that I can watch "new" episodes of Primeval.

I'm amazed when I hear people talking about "new" shows that are only still "new" shows because these people are so morally superior as to abstain from downloading these shows when they first air in their country of origin, like Primeval, on the internet a year ago.

If Primeval needed less than 2 million North Americans watching to stay afloat, it's kinda sad if 40 million people downloaded the series and enjoyed it a year ago, and therefore do not have to subscribe to their local cable station and series falters then expires.

Continuum is a better show. Also made in Canada, sold to America then the world. Same market. Same audience. 40 million people download every episode, but it plods on.

That's a shame. I'm really liking both these shows, though P:NW took a few weeks to find its legs, and it still feels like an alternate universe from the original show. (After the events of the original series' finale, anomalies should not be secret anymore. And why isn't the ARC doing more to provide the Canadians with locking devices, stunguns, and the like?)

Anyway, hopefully I can watch or record all the marathon episodes and not miss anything; but I've enjoyed looking forward to these shows each Saturday, and I was hoping that ritual would continue a few weeks longer.

I tried but I just couldn't get into Primeval at all.

I'm surprised that both these shows failed to find viewers. Okay, P:NW took a few weeks to get really interesting, but I was fascinated by Sinbad from the start. It took a while to flesh out its supporting cast, but there were compelling elements from the start, including the gorgeous Maltese filming locations that gave it a look unlike any other show.

P:NW's numbers are just under what the Monday scripted shows got. Which is surprising given the Sat timeslot. But those Saturday night movies typically get close to 2 million viewers. It's a wonder the network left both shows there as long as they did.

When Defiance ended, it might have been prudent to move them over to Mondays, but since both shows had already been canceled before airing here, perhaps Syfy felt it wouldn't be worth the trouble.

And there you have the real problem. People are always blaming the networks for cancelling the good shows and airing the schlock, but the fact is, the schlock gets a much huger audience than the good stuff. Mindlessness is what the majority of television viewers want. And any network dependent on ratings and ad revenues to stay in business is trapped by that.

Merely being cancelled by the original network doesn't make it impossible for the show to continue on another. See Sliders, Andromeda, and Stargate SG-1. All three were picked up by the Sci-Fi Channel after being cancelled by their respective networks.

Now sure, the ratings for P:NW would have had to be pretty darn good for SyFy to even consider picking it up, but unlikely isn't impossible.

^^ Sinbad reminds me a lot of the adventure shows syndicated in the 90's

I wonder if part of the issue has been setting it on Saturday night where for better or worse people might be expecting the latest disaster/monster movie. Perhaps they'd have done better in the Monday night slots left vacant by Defiance/W13?

but I've been watching Sinbad from the start, and I've been really enjoying it. It's the first fantasy show like this that I've come across that goes for this kind of a more middle eastern flavor. Maybe that was what scared people off?

If so, that's a shame. I found it refreshing that for the first time, we got an American Sinbad production that didn't have a white Sinbad. Granted, he was Afro-British rather than Arab, but it was something. And the show had a pretty diverse cast overall, which is plausible given the cosmopolitanism and multiethnic makeup of the historical Abbasid Caliphate. I also loved how it showed Basra as a center of science and learning, a progressive society, rather than the old movie portrayal of a barbaric land of mysticism and Orientalist stereotypes. Though really it's been about the conflict between progressive and traditionalist elements, with Taryn representing the old ways of darkness and superstition. Which makes it kind of a metaphor for the societal conflict in the modern Middle East between progressivism and fundamentalism. Funny, I never thought of that until just now.

It's startling that episode 7 was a season finale-level story. At least if viewers miss the marathon, they'll still have gotten a fairly complete story arc. But I do wonder what comes next in the final 5 episodes.
