Is Pike 'President of the Starfleet Academy'?

BorgPhil

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
or have Cineworld got a bit excited in their synopsis?

'Trekkies' everywhere rejoice as cult filmmaker JJ Abrams gives us the story of James T Kirk as he prepares to take rightful his place aboard the USS Enterprise.
Intergalactic heroism seems light-years away when we meet Jim Kirk (Chris Pine) brawling in a bar. Amid the chaos, he's approached by a stranger who tells him that his father was the captain of a starship and something of a hero. The man is President of the Starfleet Academy and he wants Kirk to follow in his father's footsteps. At the Academy, Kirk meets his future crew, including Spock (Zachary Quinto), Bones (Karl Urban), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Sulu (John Cho) and Uhura (Zoe Saldana). And with the United Federation of Planets under attack from the marauding Romulan Nero (Eric Bana), it's time for Kirk and the crew to assume battle stations aboard the Starship Enterprise and boldly go where no one has gone before.
Screenplay: Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman
Distributor: Paramount
You should see it because: Abrams' breakneck reimagining of this evergreen classic has a great cast, breathtaking visuals and a cameo that will delight the die-hard fans.
See it if you liked: Star Trek: Nemesis (2002), Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005), Cloverfield (2008)

IMBD has Tyler Perry listed as the Starfleet Academy President. Perry is African American and is the actor who plays the "Madea" characters.

Cineworld need to hire new writers, awful summary:shifty:

Plus one other thing the article got wrong is that Kirk doesn't meet Scotty at the Academy, but apparently on Delta-Vega.

No.
I believe it's Tyler Perry that plays the President of the Academy

Yes, though I believe his title is Commandant (though that could have changed). The whole "Pike's the president" thing sounds like the writer watched a trailer and add 2+2 to equal 5.

:lol:MWAHAHA! do we know if this ''writer'' wrote for ''ENTERPRISE'' & ''VOYAGER''?
The writer is obviously either an employee of the theater chain in question or someone doing a similar job for the distribution pipeline which feeds that theater chain. Slaps at series which you may not like (but I and others might) aren't really necessary.

QFT.

Always thought the Academy had an commandant.

Academies tend to have Commandants or perhaps Superintendents. Picard in TNG "Coming of Age" was supposed to become the former.

"Academy President" sounds like a position a popular student might hold...

Wow. That is a very "cringe worthy" read.
Is it just me, or do some of you hate it when someone exclusively uses the name "Bones" instead of "Dr. McCoy"?

Exactly. This is not written by someone whose livelihood depends upon their writing skill. At best, it's packaging-sticker language intended to sell movie tickets to the not-very-Trekkish in the viewing audience.

ok pike probably isnt commandant but then afer looking at one of the new images if he isnt for a period of time he may have had a pretty high rank and been stationed at the academy.
