There is no doubt Patrick Stewart and the cast deserve credit for making TNG trek what it was. I personally think a lot of the success of tng era trek was due in no small part to Michael Piller and the writing team of Behr, Moore, Braga, Shankar, and Echeverria (sp?).
Without these guys, while we may have had the same actors and characters, we would have had a very different kind of TNG.
