Is "Nemesis" an underrated movie?

Well for me it's a yes and a no on this one, I just wished they had done it better is all.

I think Nemesis was a good film, however I think it had the potential to be so much better. The storyline was actually good. I remember when I first watched it I was underwhelmed but after reading the novalisation, I realised that the storyline was actually quite good. Re-watching it after reading the book made me appreciate it in an entirely different way. I think important parts of the story were missed out or rushed over. I think more time should have been taken to flesh out the Shimzon character to make him more believable. I also think the movie missed an oppertunity to really develop the Romulans. More could also have been made of the end of the journey (i.e Riker and Deanna and Beverly leaving etc). Including some of the deleted scenes would have improved the movie I think.

I haven't read the novelization but I think that you summed up how I felt about the movie as well- and, might I add, much better than I am normally capable of!:techman:

That's irrelevant though, it's a movie. You could maybe do it in a TV episode, but the pacing would have been totally wrong in the film.

I think that is one of the biggest issues for fans with the TNG films, they are just films that happen to feature the TNG crew not continuations of the TV series. Therefore we do not see why Worf quit being an Ambassador, or why Wesley is there. I think in many cases this was the right decision.

The biggest problem with Nemesis is the total hackery about the whole thing, the idea that fans just want a big battle (fans are partly to blame for this, half the fan-fic forum is about the Feds in bluddy wars all the time) and an overall dismissiveness of trek as a format.

Baird is a drab, by the numbers director, it has a drab, by the numbers plot with stupid tacked on scenes. It is not outand out bad, its just not any good either.

The movie was memorable to me. It was the only movie that I can ever remember, that I saw in the theater, which I fell asleep watching. What made it even worse was that I had to wait in a rather long line to see it.

After watching several other times, on DVD, it has a few decent qualities but the overall story is pretty lame. It's a shame that the TNG crew got to go out like this, I think they deserved a better big screen send off.

I remember thinking that this is the type of ST movie that I would have written when I was younger... and considering that the space battles SHOULD have seemed cooler to me, considering what was going on (Enterprise vs Romulans) it wasn't really that exciting, because the Enterprise is a newer one, so seeing it get pounded doesn't have the emotional response of seeing an old friend like the original Enterprise, or even the Enterprise-D.

And seeing the Romulans being the bad guy seemed to be, at first, a nice possibility, but then they WEREN'T the bad guy - in fact, they were the good guys, after a fashion.

All in all, this should have been much better than it really was.

It's on AMC right now. So far there have been ads for "Catwoman" and "Superman Returns", so its in good company. AMCs tag line for their programing "Story matters here" :guffaw:

Now don't be mean! It's not like they could say "Commercials matter here".

Nemesis was not the best Trek film, but I don't find it unwatchable. It has its moments.

The villain in the new JJ Abrams film reminded me of Shinzon, in a way.

Yeah. If I saw it when I was 12, it would have been the kind of Trek I wanted to see. My Trek tastes have evolved a bit, though. I was 20 when Nemesis came out, and it just seemed a bit... too little, too late.

You know, I found this on sale for $4 recently and nabbed it, and I still can't bring myself to watch it. I watched the special features disc, but lost interest.
