Is Nana Visitor the dumbest stage name of all time?

When I first starting watching DS9, I read the screen wrong and thought her last name was Vistor, Which seemed more normal to me. Still thought the Nana was weird, though.

I always thought Colm Meaney was a funny name, Sounds like a contradiction to me.

Ever notice that the DS9 cast has names like Avery, Rene, Nana, Cirroc, Armin, Siddig, and Colm, and then Voyager comes along and has 3 guys named Bob? I always thought of it as a metaphor....

I found Nana Visitor a little unusual in the beginning but I got used to it fairly quickly and just accepted it as the actresses name.

I think whether you like it or not, it IS memorable.

Wow. You REALLY need to relax. Sorry, but I don't run into an "Armin" every day here in Atlanta - a city of about 5 million people.

So sue me.:p

And dude...just for the record, I ASSURE you that my first name (and my maiden-name last name, for that matter) IRL is more unusual than yours.

I'd lay odds, in fact. And the few people in this forum who know it (I don't reveal it often since there is only one person in the universe with my name, as best I am aware: ME) would very much back me on that fact.

So any implied prejudice on your part is purely imaginary. And has nothing whatever to do with anything being discussed here - which is actor's stage names being odd or interesting.

wow you people are something. "Armin not exactly a name you run into every day" just cause its not common in your neck of the woods doesnt mean it isnt everywhere else I know about 12 people named Armin out here in Los Angeles, I would hate to see what you would say about my first name.
^ Yep. Rene's last name is one example.

But how about the first name of 'Cirroc'? Or 'Armin'? Not exactly names you run into every day. And even once Sid changed his name to Alexander Siddig, 'Siddig' is not exactly an everyday name either.

Shoot...even 'Avery' isn't used all that commonly. Or, at least I don't know any other Averys IRL.

Nana Visitor ain't got nuffim' on
BOOTROS-BOOTROS GALLY!

Did I even spell the dude's name right:confused:

Best, or worst, part is this BB Gun Gally character isn't even an actor:mad:

BOOTROS-BOOTROS GALLY is his real name dudes!

When I first heard of'im I was like:
“No way dude:eek:! That's his real name:wtf: Bumber! ”

BB Gally is some politician guy UN dude from some foreign country-like place.

I'd take NANA VISITOR anyday over
BOOTROS-BOOTROS GALLY:hugegrin:

Bootros-Bootros Gally would be my choice for a stage or pen-name.

Folks'd never forget it & the best part is:

My pen or stage name of Bootros-Bootros Gally, or BB Gun for short, would generate threads like this here one on my aficionado's message boards:hugegrin:

Um...what?!? :wtf:

I always thought it was pronounced "na-na" like the taunt, but in DS9 DVD interviews, Siddig refers to her as "Nuh-Naw", so I suppose that's the way it's supposed to sound. Surely he knows how her name is supposed to be said, being her ex-husband and all.

My name is Michael. Fortunately, I have no plans for a stage career. Any name I'd choose would get picked apart...

Yup, it's true. And it's a very cool name. ;)

Armin, by the way, is kind of a common name in Germany. Don't know if Shimerman has German ancestry, though.

Auberjonois is simply French. His father came from Switzerland, so you know how that name came to be.

Her other choices were "Missy Stinkfinger" and "Butros Butros-Gahli."

I'd say she chose wisely.

Joe, namely

Holy cow, are you funny!

Hey, now that I'm on this thread, does Nana rhyme with banana, iguana, or is the second syllable emphasized, like "ta-DA"?

Serious. I couldn't find pronunciation marks. That's the best I could spell out different pronunciations.

Like the end of banana.

As far as the last name she chose, eh. Could be worse. Could be Nana Pickledick.
Joe, nee Pickledick

Maybe she should have chosen "Nana Banana"; that would get some attention.;)

Actually, I think it's nah-NAH, stress on the last syllable, and it's originally a French name. I remember it from a stage appearance she did at an convention in Italy some years ago.

It was the name of the leading character in Emile Zola's novel "Nana", made immortal in 1981 by french actress Veronique Genest, who made the male audience drool like they never had before. Veronique is a very gorgeous redhead :

According to IMDB, it is taken from the jazz musician Django Reinhardt (cited by Navaros, too), which was a Belgian Gypsy.

Never heard of him...

I find "Nana" to be a far more strange name than Visitor. Nana to me sounds like something a baby would say, not a grown person. ...
Nana, sounds like an english terem for Grandmother, That what my late grandmother used to be called when I was a lot younger. (pre-teen)

Her other choices were "Missy Stinkfinger" ."
..

Now there is a name, Portia de Rossi could have used on occasion
