Ah, Kirk first went Starfleet in 2252 for the 5-year degree program. He's definitely still a student
Kirk is a lieutenant serving aboard the Farragut at the time of the first episodes of DSC.
And if Kirk ever turns up on DSC, the Farragut disaster is probably the way they'll do it. It'd make one hell of an episode.
Hmm, we know that Pike was in command of the Enterprise thirteen years prior to TOS's first season (about 2252), his being in command in 2256 is conjecture backed by nothing. Unless your employing comic books or novels..Pike is of course Captain of the Enterprise at the time of STD. He was in his 5th/6th year as Captain (having been granted command in 2050)
If Starfleet were involved in a major war, would promising young officer like Kirk still be parked at the academy teaching a class?Kirk (either still in the academy OR in Starfleet on the Republic as an Ensign --- any experts please chime in)
He would have been twelvex Chekov (still in academy at best, maybe high school)
the Farragut disaster was in 2257, one year after Episode 1 of DSC, so it isentirely possible.
Though, TBH I wouldn't want to see Kirk, they could mention the disaster if it is relevant to the plot of the episode, but I'd like them to stay away from the main cast of TOS except in passing reference. It makes sense for Spock to be mentioned at least once because of Burnham.

If any of those characters appear, guaranteed they will be rebooted 'modernized' versions.
Spock appearing on this show is inevitable though, but I think it will start with 'boy Spock' in Burnham flashbacks.
^ Star Trek Discovery is not a reboot, so your "guarantee" is never going to come true.
