Is Lorca Captain enough to save the Admiral?

Refuge

Vice Admiral
Admiral
So is this going to be an example of Discovery's hero Captain? Is he going to save Cornwell? Or is he going to wimp out and all of a sudden wait for orders? Let's be honest orders mean shit to him when he's looking after his own skin. He's killed a whole crew before to save them from Klingon torture.

I fully expect him to save Katrina.. yes?

I think there's enough preview footage to imply that a rescue is at least attempted. But does Lorca want it to succeed? My guess is that Ash and Michael attempt an extraction under orders from Starfleet which Lorca will authorize. But somehow they will fail. So close and yet...

Lorca will give them a rousing speech when they return about how valiant they were and how Cornwell will be mourned and remembered as an awesome Admiral who died heroically in the line of duty. Then he'll go off to his ready room to gaze broodily out of the window again, conflicted because he's so sad she's dead, but so glad she's dead.

He just leaves her there to die or he blows up wherever she is. Don't think he cares about anything except his captaincy and winning this war.

I suspect you're pretty close to right.

Have you watched all the previews, including the season previews? Because there is footage which implies a rescue away team for Cornwell. Definitely Michael and possibly Ash on that team.

No shots to imply that, as I recall. I think he'll be hands off so as to cover his ass. That way if it fails, he can claim he gave it a college try.

But there is footage of Michael picking up a blade and attacking some Klingons (who look affiliated with Kol), she seems really angry. Footage of Cornwell attacking L'Rell and she's standing/not restrained. Footage of Ash and a very beat up Michael walking through a doorway looking dejected. I've also read there is footage of Cornwell and Michael in frame together. I haven't seen it myself however, so it might just be an unsubstantiated rumor.

I would like the Admiral to live and if Michael can save her it would be kind of a moment for her too. I know it's sexist of me but it would be a sisterhood type of thing.

I like your idea and reasoning. There's nothing sexist about two women bonding through adversity. It's could be a bromance, but in reverse. ;)

This is only from the preview clip so i might draw the wrong conclusion..

After looking at the preview i got the impression that the away-team are on some planet doing something different than rescuing cornwell.

There are no klingons there, Ash is attact by someone who has the same uniform as him and the hand that choking him looks like Sarus hand.
Also the writers on after-trek talked about how great job Doug did in that episode so i think its all about Saru.

The Cornwell and klingons clips we see are all in space / on ships.. And no sign of any away-team there...?

There is footage which seems to be on a ship, of Burnham crouching and picking up what looks like a Klingon blade. She launches herself at the two Klingons in front of her.

Yet we see a snippet of a scene where she is walking with Ash and is all cut up and bruised.

Ah ok... Looking forward to the next ep, can turn out fun.

Starfleet Admiral: 'Captain Lorca, we need you to rescue Admiral Cornwell'
Lorca: 'Admiral Whowell?'
Starfleet Admiral: Cornwell, Lorca, for crying out loud. You know that chick you were banging?
Lorca: 'Oh, you mean Landry? She Daid'
Starfleet Admiral: 'Goddamn it Lorca, WE NEED YOU TO RESCUE ADMIRAL CORNWELL, CORN-WELL'
Lorca: 'Nah, I'll just wait til one of her friends puts up a R.I.P status update for Cromwell on Facebook and click 'Like' or maybe the 'heart' or 'Sadface' emoji. Or better yet I'll change my profile pic to one of Crandall. That's his name right?
Starfleet Admiral: 'Forget it, I'll ask Captain Pike'

Seriously, pretty sure Cornwell is done for or maybe not. I dunno, I'm just going to watch and see next week.

I would like to hope he'd rescue her, but not expecting it. Though the previews had a line that made it sound like she died, but I think that is a red hering myself and they are trying to throw us off. .

He needs to focus on winning the war. Clearly losing Cornwell has not significantly altered their fortunes so far in the conflict. From that standpoint, he's made the correct decision to follow regulations and not go after her.

I'd agree with you if I didn't have other information relative to his motivation.

I believe he is not going after her because he resents her and her ideas about Discovery's command.

Doing the right thing for the wrong reason still makes him a selfish person that barely constitutes a "man"
