Is Khan really Kirk's greatest adversary?

I know a lot of folks say Star Wars owes a lot to Kurosawa, but having watched the films in question, I really don't see the resemblance.
The general outline of the plot (princess seeks aged warrior to smuggle something away from enemies) is like The Hidden Fortress, and the bickering droids are clearly inspired by the bickering peasants in that film. But it's more an influence than a copy, as opposed to "Balance of Terror" being The Enemy Below in spaceship drag.

I don't want to take this discussion off topic, but regarding derivative sounding Trek scores from the same composer I can't resist posting this from Leonard Rosenman:

I would recommend the Criterion release of Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress." It includes an interview with George Lucas himself wherein he talks about Kurosawa's influence on his work, including Star Wars.

Kirk should have been dragged back to Quisnos to stand trial for what happened on that Klingon ship (even though it was Scotty's doing).

Then we could have had an episode entitled, "Trials & Tribble-ations". :p

Yes, I misspelled that on-purpose because thats how I read it every time I come across it. LOL

How fast food (and other industries) haven't figured-out they could get amazing product-placement in space. Imagine if DS9 had a McDonalds?

All in good time...

That's a cool idea. DS9 should absolutely have made a deal to put a McDonalds, or a Burger King or KFC, visible in the background of the Promenade, near Quark's. It would not only have increased the realism of the mall, it would have increased the budget of the show. Win-win.

Ugh, I'm glad they didn't do that. It's about one step away from the ENT concept of having boy bands perform in the mess hall.

I don't want that particular kind of contemporaneous reminder in my Trek.

KFC: still in business (whatever that term means in a world with no money) because they refuse to release their list of herbs and spices to public replicators...

Like a Plomeek Express in their food court, or Vulcan spiced tea at the Galaxybucks.

Might be able to write a Ferengi episode around that. Whoa, we've gone off topic.

Way back I believe there was a suggestion of putting “no smoking” signs on the bridge and elsewhere on set. The idea was nixed because they wanted to convey the idea no one smoked in the far future and to avoid any inkling of product placement.
