Is Joe Flanigan the worst scifi lead actor ever?

come on that's harsh. it's not like he's as bad as the annoying richard dean anderson. omg, he's like the hannah montanna of stargate. popular for some unfathomable reason, but endlessly annoying and bad. >_<

I agree. I just couldn't get into SG-1 while O'Neill was still around.

*cough* Kevin Sorbo *cough*

With regards to Andromeda, Sorbo was also one the worst scifi executive producers ever.

Hey, Kevin Sorbo was awesome.

I wouldn't want him to win any emmys for best acting, but he had an undeniable charm that made Hercules amazingly fun to watch. He was also pretty good as Dylan Hunt in the first season before the show went to shit.

You mean when Sorbo also became executive producer of the show? :p

We're talking acting ability here. Nobody said anything about the ability to run a show. Kevin Sorbo works best when he does what he's told, is allowed to ham it up, ad libs the occasional line, and has Michael Hurst to carry the dramatic moments.

I've never watched any of the SG series but I think Kevin Sorbo's performance in Andromeda would take some beating for the title of worst scifi lead actor ever.

How could I have forgotten that!!! :rommie: Milo is only second worst of all time.

Best lead actor in sci-fi: Matthew Fox on Lost. He may not be the most likable character or, if gossip serves, person in real life, but he's unquestionably a pretty good actor. Gets overlooked a lot because there are so many better actors on that show.
With all due respect to Matthew Fox, who is rather good actor, Patrick Stewart and Edward James Olmos are a league above him. I would also put some of the Doctor Who actors above him. Fox does not have the presence or charisma for a lead in a TV show. Fortunately, I consider Lost an ensamble show without an actual 'lead', even if Fox comes the closest to being one.

I can't call Milo Ventimiglia the worst lead actor for the same reason. While there are grounds for considering Jack the leading character of Lost, Peter Petrelli is not the lead on Heroes. Either nobody is, or there are several people who can be considered leads.

^Thank You! I was just thinking that. True, Flanigan is not a great actor, but Marc Singer in "V?" Gads. He makes even Kevin Sorbo look like the Master Thespian by comparison.

I see nothing wrong with Joe Flanigan's acting although I just realized that he's now typecast for me. I just saw him on Warehouse 13 and all I could think was "you're John Sheppard, for cryin' out loud, you're the one who should be saving the day!" ;) And whoever said he's the stuff crushes are made of is totally right...

Worst lead actor in sci-fi? Avery Brooks. I still can't figure out if his acting was simply robotic or completely over-the-top, or both...

If Milo Ventimiglia can be considered the lead actor of Heroes (and I guess he has as much a claim to it as any) then he is definitely the worst sci fi lead actor ever.

Yeah, he's terrible. I can't stand Peter. I wish Nathan were the lead, and was the one who had all the cool powers and it was Peter who died, but sadly, that's not what happened.

Writer #1: "Okay people, It's our big season finale. Our last scene has Sheppard and Todd with the ZPM that will either power the new Wraith Super Hive Ship or save Earth and they have to fight for it, hand to hand."
Stunt Co-ordinator: "Okay, when do you want my guys to start laying this one out."
Writer #2: "Oh, you won't be needed. We're going have the door automatically close as the fight starts and then the viewer can just imagine the fight as you hear lots of loud crashing coming from behind the door".

Writer #1: "Right, Todd is dying, but he has the secret code that will prevent Atlantis from being destroyed so they need to keep him alive."
Writer #2: "Okay, so McKay puts himself through the Ancient Ascendo-machine again to save him."
Writer #1: "Yeah, that works, then McKay transfers Todd's memories to the comatose shapeshifting alien from the last episode"
Writer #3 :"Good idea... Wait, what ? Last time McKay used the machine he could heal people!"
Writer #1 : "We try not to remember things that are inconvenient to the plot around here!"

LOL! Good one, Hermiod. Man, that Heroes finale was terrible, and pretty much killed the show for me permanently. Between the complete lack of a fight, the death of Nathan, the complete inability of anybody in the room to remember that the blood of people like Sylar and Claire can bring people back to life, and that abomination of having Sylar replace Nathan, I've had enough.

10 Sylvester Stallone

Eh, after Demolition Man, I can never put him on any list of the worst sci-fi actors. Stallone can be pretty fun in a role, and that movie's definitely fun. :)

No kidding. That show, while still having lousy production quality, was getting extremely good in the second season. Then he took over and, wow! You could see the massive drop in quality from one episode to the next. I literally got slapped full in the face with it. It was unbelievable. It was like watching from Dusk Til Dawn. There's a point in that movie where the quality goes from being awesome, to making a massive 180 degree turn in a split second and taking a nosedive. Same with Andromeda. You had one really great episode and... wham! Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap.

If they wanted to make the main military guy in SGA different from O'Neill in SG-1, they could have based him on O'Neil in the original movie.

Yeah, I would've liked that, myself. It'd be nice to have a team leader who can bludgeon a First Prime the way Kurt Russell's O'Neill beat up Ra's First Prime. They should've kept Robert Patrick, as he seemed appropriately bad-ass. I was pretty disappointed when he didn't stick around as the lead (nevermind that it would've been cool seeing him interact with Mitch Pileggi, again, once he came on the show as commander of the Daedalus).

Marc Singer is the Beastmaster Thespian. Get it? Oh, never mind. :(

I watched Warehouse 13 this week, guest-starring Flanigan. He's not a bad actor at all. He should continue to make a good living on sci-fi TV shows.

Is that sort of like being the thinnest fat guy in a room?
