Is James Cawley Really Dropping out of Phase II?

I have known James for a good many years, and I have to say that I don't know anyone with more passion and love of the material, heck, original Trek in general, than anyone I've met. His enthusiasm is contagious, and his standards are meticulous. He has created something that could only be described as museum-quality in the physical sets, and has thrown blood, sweat and tears into making each adventure as true to his understanding and vision can be. Your mileage may vary with respect to choices, but I, for one, have an enormous amount of respect and admiration, also gratitude, for what James has wrought out of practically nothing and what he's built it into and that he shared even a small piece of it with me before I retired from Phase II. Whether its Star Trek, WWW, Batman or his incredible recreations of Elvis Presley's performances, the immersive talent is staggering. I salute what James Cawley has, and will still accomplish!

I had the joy of meeting James at Dragon*Con several years ago. I'm thinking 2006, 2007? Somewhere in there. His excitement for all things Trek was obvious during our brief chat, and I was left with the impression that New Voyages was in very safe hands. He talked about the hard work that went into building the sets. I asked about buying copies of the episodes on DVD, and he said that was one of the agreements they had with Paramount's legal team. They could accept donations of gift cards to Home Depot, Lowes, and the like, but they couldn't sell anything. He didn't seem to be annoyed with that restriction, but thrilled to be part of a universe he so enjoyed.

I have seen each episode as it's been released, and continue to enjoy them, cast changes and all. They just keep getting better! Here's hoping we'll continue to enjoy new Phase II episodes for years to come.

In everything I have read of Mr Cawley, including his own posts here and elsewhere, he seems a man who is dignified, intelligent and passionate about the material, and I think we as fans are lucky to have him among our number.
