Is it true?

All that being said, I trust Mallory to keep this board from getting bogged down with essentially one-on-one discussions--whether its by policing people who wave bait around or by policing people who get into a feeding frenzy chomping at the bait.
Thanks. We generally have pretty damned good set of regulars here. Even the occasional critic normally posts here with a sincere intent rather than a sense of maliciousness.

That said, we do sometimes end up with someone bent on destruction and those are the people I keep an eye on.

My door is always open. If anyone has a complaint or even just wants to vent feel free to drop me a PM or email me at Mallory@TrekBBS.com.

We announced back in January that J.G. would have the significant role of “K’Sia” in our “Kitumba” episode but after J.G. tore his rotator cuff, he knew he would have to have a substantially reduced role. He wasn’t sure where our shooting would fall in relation to his surgical repair of the tear. (We were fortunate that our director could do double duty and step in as “K’Sia”—not an ideal solution but it worked out well.)

Just to correct... the role of "K'Sia" was taken on by an actor in our production that does double-duty as part of our VFX team: Pony R. Horton. The director (Vic Mignogna) played "Warlord Malkthon", and was cast in that role from the beginning.

Thank You, Andriech! I have wanted to say something to the effect that "I played K'Sia, darnit!" but I didn't want to spoil anything. I see now than my name is given that credit on IMDB, as well as you mentioning it here.

I have to admit, I was looking forward to meeting Mr. Hertzler myself, but I was really REALLY honored when James tapped me for the role of K'Sia, and I hope I was able to do the role justice. I'm rather surprised that Greg thought, at this late date, that K'Sia was played by Vic... Don't get me wrong; Greg's a good man, and it's always a pleasure interacting with Greg on the forums, as well as everybody at PHASE II.

And getting to act with them in STAR TREK PHASE II was truly a "Bucket List" event for me! Thanks, folks!

Pony

Hey Pony,

Greg's been rather busy with stuff I am sure, so it was probably a simple slip. especially since he's the guy who helps me finalize the credits for the new web pages. I think ya did fine in the role.

As for the drive folks, (yay! finally back to topic!), all should be well, and we are on to planning our next shoot... what you ask? Well, I wish I could say at this point. But, an announcement will be forthcoming when we start recruitment. Still too early for that announcement.

Best,
Robert

PS: Mallory, I love the sigs!!!

Yes, I apologize, Pony. Mostly I just got my Klingon names confused. They all sound alike to me after a while. (I guess that makes me a little bit racist.)

Malkthon played by Vic Mignogna who also directed
K'Sia played by Pony Horton
Kali played by Michele Specht
The Kitumba played by Kario Pereira Bailey
Kargh played by John Carrigan
Le'ak played by Anne Carrigan

...and assorted other Klingons, too.

Thank you Mallory. You are quite fair and to be respected.

Hi Pony Horton, I see that this is your first post to TrekBBS.

"Ks" does seem to be the favorite letter for Klingon names.

This is like the Superman names. They always end in 'el. Or the girlfriends were LL.

Thanks, Greg! I knew you'd never slight me.

Yeah, those Klingon names CAN be confusing. And funny, too. Whenever I hear the name "Malkthon," I can't help but thinking of the pesticide Malathion.

And the term "Kitumba" makes me think of that song, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." Where the backup vocals are singing "A-weem-a-way,a-weem-a-way," I can't help but think, "Kitumba-way, kitumba-way!"

Just K'Sia's two-strips-of-Latinum-worth.

(And I personally think that the name "K'Sia" [pronounced Kee-ShAH or KEE-Shuh] is the coolest-sounding name in the show! But that's just me...)

Kryptonian names don't all end in "El," only those from that particular family line of Superman's. However, most Kryptonian names are hyphenated.

See:

Also see the cast of character list in the Last Days of Krypton. Many of the names in the novel come from all the eras of Superman comics.

But you got the girlfriend thing down pat. Lois Lane. Lana Lang. Lori Lemaris. Even his Kryptonian girlfriend and wife in another life, Lyla Lerrol.

Oddly enough, also Lex Luthor. A little slash potential, there...

I got it!

Lex Luthor isn't pissed at Superman for his hair loss. No, he's pissed because Superman/Superboy was more interested in Lois Lane or Lana Lang and not him. So Lex would rather destroy the man he loves then let some pesky reporter or country bumpkin have him.

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, confidence was high that all of the "Kitumba" footage from our hard drive that failed would be successfully recovered by a data recovery company we retained. I wanted to close the loop on this issue.

To make a long story shot, 100% of the data was indeed obtained from the failed drive, and put onto a new drive (and then successfully backed up by us, of course). So, in the end, no footage was lost from “Kitumba,” we had 100% recovery, and we’ve already begun editing some of the footage. (So we’re doing editing on “Blood and Fire, Part 2” and “Enemy: Starfleet” and “The Child” and “Kitumba”—all simultaneously.)

The credit for the prompt, professional data recovery goes to Drive Savers Data Recovery in Novato, California. We’d be remiss if we didn’t put in a nice plug for these folks who really pulled the fat out of the fire for us. You can find them at:

http://www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com/welcome/welcome-to-drivesavers/?dsNum=22975

Lastly, as many people know, we had a location shoot at a rather rustic Revolutionary War-era fort: For Ticonderoga. It worked very nicely as an old, grungy Klingon military outpost. The Fort Ticonderoga website did a nice little blurb about us, and we provided them with a little preliminary snippet from “Kitumba” showing how their Fort will look in our episode. (The matte shot isn’t final; there’s already a lot that we know we’ll change. But it gives you an idea of what we’re after.) You can see the little snippet here:

Glad to hear about the recovery of the data, Greg. Ah, Novato. I used to date a wonderful woman in Novato. We'd sit arm-in-arm, look at the moon, enjoy the scent of distant ocean air, and dream of breaking into the then-fledgling LucasFilm Ranch.

mmm - the good old days.

I heard that one of my favorite Fan Films forgot to back up their filming  Is there anyway to retrieve what they shot off of their hard drive???

...Well, we didn't "forget." ... We shoot the footage onto P2 cards and then transfer the files to a hard drive and then backup the hard drive.
...

This is a sub-optimal procedure.

The obvious problem with it is that if any data are corrupted
when the card is copied to the first drive, the backup procedure backs up the corrupted data and when the card
is wiped, it is lost.

A backup is best done independently of the first copy so as to avoid common-mode failure.

Ideally, the data should the copied from the card to a hard drive and then copied from the card again to another hard drive before the card is wiped. Neither card image should ever be rewritten renamed etc in place.

If the card data is corrupted, it doesnt matter... it's still two corrupted copies on the hard drives. Regardless, the data is ingested so we know if the data is corrupted or not when it is backed up. The backup occurs from the ingested data on the first hard drive, otherwise the data needs to be ingested twice.

This has all been worked out and a plan is already in place to prevent this from happening again.
