Is it time to follow up/bring a conclusion to Enterprise?

I think people misunderstand the point of the Short Treks. They’re not a vehicle for bringing back old Trek actors. They’re meant to enhance the Trek shows CBS is currently producing. (That is, if ‘enhance’ is actually the right word, since several of the Short Treks are kind of pointless.)

Considering how much Discovery has referred to Archer and that time period (list of notable Starfleet captains, USS Shran, draft of the Geneva Protocol in 2155 banning bioweapons, Archer and his crew being the last to visit Qonos for a hundred years), it makes sense to have a couple of Short Treks based around the ENT era and crew. The events during ENT obviously affect the Discovery, and I imagine Pike's, respective crews. And might matter for ST: Picard, due to the whole Romulan subtext.

A Short Trek based on Archer's visit to Qonos in 2-16-7 could be a way to see the crew with Shran as well as originally planned for S5. Or the NX-01 refit. Might even be a more satisfactory conclusion to ENT that TATV was.

They were originally asking Stewart to return as Picard for a Short Trek though...

And there’s a show called Star Trek: Picard that CBS is currently producing...

There’s a difference between callbacks to past shows, and creating a Short Trek about those shows. And most of those actors (Bakula especially) are simply not coming back, contrary to what some people think.

Face it. At this point, the only way we’ll see former Trek actors is if they show up in PIC. And none of those will be the NX-01 crew.

The Short Treks are for whatever they want them to be. I agree that some are pointless and the ones that are ostensibly connected to the events of an ongoing show sometimes dont shed much light on it. I would prefer a TOS cast Short to some of what they actually ended up making, whether it was written to connect it to events in an ongoing or upcoming show or not.

And so far every one of them has to do with either DSC or PIC. Because they’re using those shows’ production assets. And once the Section 31 show, Lower Decks, and Prodigy come out, there will most likely be Short Treks based on those. So I don’t see them all of a sudden deciding to make a Short Trek about ENT or the present/surviving TOS cast any time soon.

It would be easy to connect them if they wanted to. And it would require no new investment on the production side, so it is not as if it would cost more to make that one than to make the ones they have. And few have added much at all to either show. Some have only a tenuous connection at best to them. No, I dont think they will do this, but not for any reason you are mentioning here.

There is also Balthazar Edison, who was confirmed to have served with Archer during ENT in Star Trek Beyond. Would it be so bad if there was just a Short Trek of him in his quarters entering his personal logs depicting his feelings of the ENT crew or some missions they went on after "Terra Prime" (Stratos, Kzinti, Qonos, Martian Declaration of Independence)? Or explain how the Romulan War effort is going and how the crew is reacting (Reed temporarily leaving to join the UESN, Mayweather temporarily leaving to go back to the Horizon, T’Pol temporarily leaving to go back to Vulcan or join Section 31, NX-01 being forced to not participate in the war effort – just throwing some random ideas out there). All while showcasing how the crew is different with members of the Coalition of Planets serving on the ship since the events of "Terra Prime." Or him in the mess hall with Wolff, Le and Grinwald on the NX-01. Or at the 602 Club or Madame Chang's.

Why would CBS, or most of the DSC and PIC viewing audience who are not members of this BBS, care about any of that? Plus, Edison was a character created for the Paramount Kelvin films, the universe of which CBS has been trying to avoid.

Idris Elba being a much bigger star than Walter Koenig certainly makes it alot more likely than seeing Koenig's Chekov again for a fond farewell. But I do not see the Edison character coming back either. But it's not a coincidence that they wanted a show set around the man who is unarguably the biggest star of the TNG cast, which is what Sir Patrick is. Idris is likewise a more well established star with non-Trek audiences. I am sure that having him in some role or another in the future is a possibility.

Not that I would not like to see them expand the Shorts. As Ive said, that's definitely what I would like them to do. They have made some pretty dumb, silly and pointless ones up to now. They should open it up to the broadest range of talented writers, and directors. Let's see what comes out of that.

1. If DSC keeps making references to the ENT era, and PIC starts referring to that era as well (which is possible considering Picard’s fondness of history, and has displayed knowledge of the 22nd century numerous times during TNG), at some point there will be a Short Trek based in the ENT era. That or a time travel episode to the ENT era. Even if its animated.

2. PIC is dealing with Romulans. Something referring to the Earth-Romulan war might come up.

3. As stated above, Idris Elba is a bigger star. And CBS wants to promote CBSAA.

4. Who says he has to play the same role? Why not a role with a similar background to Edison (a MACO that served with Archer), much like how Tom Paris is similar to Nick Locarno? Same thing with Wolff, Le, and Grinwald; the actors and actress can reprise the roles with similar backgrounds, but not necessarily the same character.

5. Any history that occurs prior to the Kelvin is unaltered history, so it shouldn't affect the canon of the Prime timeline.

I think you misunderstood me. Edison is a character created for the Kelvin movies, which are owned by Paramount. Using that character (prime universe or not) in a CBS show is essentially advertising for the Kelvin films, which CBS doesn’t want to do because those films are not owned by them.

CBS owns Paramount now, after their merger with Viacom.

If they didn't make money then I'm surprised how much space they put to it in the press kits in 09.

Who are 'they?' CBS? What press kit?

Paramount paid CBS/Viacom for a license to produce Trek films. But Paramount made the money off the sales of those films, and they were Paramount's property.

I doubt I can find it again, but it was a CBS press kit hyping up both the Kelvin Trek films (either 09 or Into Darkness, I am not 100 percent on my memory) and their other properties. It was from this site: http://www.cbsconsumerproducts.com/startrek/star_trek_new_movie.html

I have no idea the financial aspects but they dedicated a lot of press power behind these films on their site.

If that's true, I find it ironic that CBS seemed to promote the films more than Paramount did.

Okay. So create a MACO character similar to Edison, a science division officer character similar to Wolff, an ops officer character similar to Le, and the same with the rest of the crew of the Franklin, and have them serve with Admiral Archer on a special mission to Andoria or somewhere else.
