How about curved screen TVs, which are supposed to reduce edge distortion? Personally, I think they're a gimmick. Does anyone actually rate them over flat screen TVs?

At one point, those old fashioned CRTs with their delightful overscan problems had a wider color and contrast gamut. But they did emit a lot of awesome X-rays. Modern day LED-back/edgelit LCD/OLED, etc, don't emit the radiation or have overscan problems, but they don't have the color range CRT has. Not that most would notice the difference apart from a few circumstances, but the tradeoff is worth it given size, reduced energy usage, longer half-life (as long as the underlying circuitry holds up), etc.
