Is it time for tv's to come in different shapes?

How about curved screen TVs, which are supposed to reduce edge distortion? Personally, I think they're a gimmick. Does anyone actually rate them over flat screen TVs?

At one point, those old fashioned CRTs with their delightful overscan problems had a wider color and contrast gamut. But they did emit a lot of awesome X-rays. Modern day LED-back/edgelit LCD/OLED, etc, don't emit the radiation or have overscan problems, but they don't have the color range CRT has. Not that most would notice the difference apart from a few circumstances, but the tradeoff is worth it given size, reduced energy usage, longer half-life (as long as the underlying circuitry holds up), etc. :D

Curved screens look stupid IMO.

It looks like a TV strayed too close to a Black Hole.

Curved TV were never a good idea because of the distance from the tv at which people sit and the fact you might have multiple people watching.

Curved monitors for a PC are good as screen sizes get bigger as it brings the corners in closer and you've only got one person using the monitor at a time.

As to the weight there's not really not much to modem LCD tv units (I've worked professional on a couple) and most the weight in the screen it's self in particular the metal plate at the back.
