Is it just me or...

Isn't this the whole point of different series?
Generally speaking (VERY generally) it would help to enjoy religious, political, or dark science fiction if you like DS9.
If you like Klingons, read the Klingon Empire books.
If you like the idea of a single ship, cut off from home, read Voyager books.
If you like the original "strange, new worlds and new civilisations", read Titan.
If you like history (that's a broad term), or the idea of the "start" of the Federation, and humanity's first forays into space, read Enterprise.
If you like comedy, classic adventure, characters with attitude and a wild science fiction imagination, read New Frontier.
If you DON'T like any of the above themes, don't read those particular books.

Saying you like Star Trek no longer has the same meaning as it did 40+ years ago. Star Trek supports so many of its own genres and themes that it requires a little specificity. If I said I like films, that doesn't mean I like ALL films.
One of the greatest things about Star Trek is that you can pick and choose your series based on what you like. You shouldn't automatically expect to like every series in Star Trek just because you like Star Trek. And there aren't any rules to being a Star Trek fan that say that, just because you are a fan, you MUST read ALL Star Trek books.
*stands up and applauds*

Well said!

mattburgess: You forgot, if you like Kirk/Shatner hero worship there's the Shatnerverse, by William Shatner himself! ;)

(Well, not just by himself.)

Therin: Not only that, but if you think Picard and Kirk would seriously go vacationing around together, you should read Shatnerverse (Whisky Tango Foxtrot on that!)

Also, if you prefer engineers over all other forms of Starfleet officer, read Corps of Engineers (but I haven't read them yet, so I'm only guessing...) :bolian:

If you like discovering the "secret" histories of popular characters, read The Lost Era.

And if you like reading about mythic battles, goblins, elves, and magic rings, skip Star Trek and read Lord of the Rings ;)

If I've forgotten any others, fill 'em in for me ;)

It was mentioned in New Frontier, wasn't it? I don't think anyone else has really done anything with Selelvians. Fortunately.

Yeah, the cause for the Selevian War is setup in Gods Above and Stone and Anvil, talked about in After the Fall and Missing in Action, and briefly seen in "Pain Management" in Tales from the Captain's Table, but we don't know any details about it. Other than the Selevians allied themselves with the Tholians and Orions during the war, the Federation won (of course), and now Mac and Ed are best pals! The Selevians have primarily been featured in New Frontier, although they were introduced in Strike Zone (another Peter David novel).

I never pick up on these sorts of things. I just read the books - if a race is mentioned in consecutive books, it completely passes me by, unless they actually have something to do with the story.

Also, wasn't Soleta kicked out of Starfleet during the war?

yup, for reasons detailed in 'Pain Management'.

i did a fan-fic featuring Mac and Kebron in the Selelvian War and 2 others featuring the War...

:crazy:Oh no, here we go again.

That was actually another one of PAD names I mispronounced when I originally read the stories. I always said it like glue.

Don't feel bad, JD, I thought it was "glue," too. Hell, I still pronounce Si Cwan as "sigh swan" despite all of the arguments in the past to the contrary.

I always pronounced it as "Sigh kwan."

(BTW, my username is pronounced "Sigh." ;) )
