I misremembered a thread here, particularly this page of it where people speculated issues between Pegg and Roy as fact. Okay, a mistake on my part, but whatevs.

I feel if JJ didn't kill the franchise again with his epic delay for a sequel to his landmark first feature Quinto would be willing to stay longer.
By kill I'm talking about the timing of his release for his movies. Enterprise was cancelled in 2005 which effectively killed Trek. JJ's movie debuts in 2009 and revives it. JJ's next film comes out in 2013 four years after his first. Revived the franchise just to leave stagnant for another 4 years. What's up with that? Quinto being 35 and still a young actor probably doesn't want to be portraying the same character he did in his early 30's. If JJ plans on another 4 year gap between Into Darkness and his next film.

Actors want to make money, first and foremost. It's not like Quinto has to play Spock constantly like Nimoy did, it's a few weeks every few years.

1) Four year gaps between sequels are fairly common. There was four years between Insurrection and Nemesis, though maybe that's a bad example given how Nemesis bombed. Four years between The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, and that didn't hurt TDKR's performance.
2) I think it's safe to say that Paramount is going to do whatever it takes to make sure Trek XIII is ready for 2016, even if it means bringing someone else in. They'll want a new Trek movie for the 50th anniversary.
With Matthew Vaughn now confirmed to direct Star Wars VII. Into Darkness's shine is beginning to dim. JJ probably released a synopsis because the internet has been a buzz with speculation on who will helm the new Star Wars and what a sequel trilogy will be about. Trek's moment seems to be over.

Trek and Wars have always been in competition with one another. All you have to do is look at box office tickets to see general audiences have always favored Wars even though most couldn't recite what the prequels are about and only paid for tickets to see ligtsaber fights.
Disney buys Lucasfilm and announces a new series of movies and Hollywood is turned on its head. Everyone is talking about it. I suspect Paramount feared losing relevancy since Star Wars sucks so much air out of the room. Doubt me? Think about JJ's last films. Ghost Protocol, Super 8, Cloverfield. Did we get a synopsis for any of these? I don't recall. I remember it being hush hush right up to the weeks before release and even the release date did we learn anything about these films. JJ's been cryptic this whole time. Now that Star Wars is coming back JJ and Paramount may be feeling the pressure of competition from a financially superior franchise.

By that logic, the 4 year gap between Quantum of Solace and Skyfall killed the Bond franchise as well.
Sort of. No official word from Lucas yet, but as of today too many people are saying they have it on good authority. Just do a Google search to see what I mean.
I believe the 1st JJ Trek film is still getting plenty of exposure to the public eye.
Our neighborhood big box store keeps a rather large, double-sided display of new releases right near the entrance. It's almost 'in the way', so to speak, you cannot miss it as you enter unless you are looking at the ceiling.
Since ST09 video release they have kept at least one quarter of one side stocked with the DVD/Blu-rays. I was there last month and the stockage was down to only a few couple copies remaining and I remember thinking, like many time before when the supply was dwindling - well that's probably going to be it, it's long exposure is probably ending. Nope. This month, as has been the case for the last 4 years, that shelf space was restocked with tens of dozens of the black and white covers shining out at me again.
It holds the record for being the 'oldest' new release on the display. Hundreds of other films have had their short time on the display and gone away forever but not ST09, it remains a hot seller.
