Is Gateways: Cold Wars a must?

thanks, Neubourne was the one i didn't remember.

to me it's Bri-Kar, Sai Kwan, Her-mat and Glow. Gleau's nae should be obvious given that it's commented how appropriate it is because he seems to.

Yeah, typical dumb comic book name stuff there. Like having a character named something like Damien D'eth or David D'Arknesse or Sibyl Sinistra who turns out to be evil (made up examples, but I've seen plenty of that kind of thing).

And of course it's possible to misread Neubourne as sounding like something like Noyborn at first, especially if you listen to Neu! and Einsturzende Neubauten...

I really recalled enjoying Cold Wars; I think this is one of the earlier books with the Trident crew, and I was loving the idea of PAD expanding the NF universe in this manner; this was way back, of course, when New Frontier was my favorite TrekLit series.

Don't skip it. I remember Cold Wars being a pretty decent read. It came out close to to Once Burned (if I remember correctly), back when PAD was hitting the mark with NF pretty much every time (to me at least ;)). All this talk of NF and the Gateway saga makes me want to re-read all the 24th century parts. Hmm.....

It was the first book with the Trident in.

it was six books and three years between OB and G:CW.

Found a pretty decent priced Cold Wars on AbeBooks! I was googling like crazy for this one. For some reason this one was the trickiest to acquire. But that's it! I'm sick of trying to find these books, already. I now have all of them either on my shelf or in the mail, save Treason. (I'll wait until February for that one.;))

Next time I'll bug you guys relentlessly about another series.

Well then...I guess I didn't remember correctly:alienblush:. Either way, Cold Wars is definitely worth the read :).

I've been having a lot of trouble locating a good copy of this one after scouring Ebay, amazon.com, and amazon.ca. All the ones I find are either in poor condition, not shipping to Canada, or the price is outrageous. I prefer getting the books in new or "like new" condition but I may have to settle for a "very good" one even though the seller can't give me specifics about the condition of it.

Anyone got any suggestions? Anyone got a really nice copy they don't need any more?

Hmm, have you tried Bargain Books? I managed to dig up a hard to find copy of a Stargate Atlantis book that way. It was in good condition. Supposed to have a bent cover, but it's really not that noticeable.

Bargain books, eh? It sounds familiar... I think they might already be listed as a common 3rd party seller on Amazon and/or Ebay.

And IIRC they don't ship to Canada.

I bought a copy from Abebooks. The shipping to Canada was quite fast for the price. $8 used. The quality of the book wasn't the best. But this is a darn hard book to find and eight bucks is pretty good considering.

^Agreed. $8 for Cold Wars is definetly worth it. Nice score :techman:. I think the US cover price is only a dollar less that that. Enjoy :)

Are the Captain's Table and Double Helix entries pretty much essential to the whole storyline also?

^The Captain's Table entry is Once Burned and I consider it essential as it details Mac Calhoun's background. Also, it's probably the best New Frontier book out there :). I don't really remember much about the Double Helix entry...

Thanks, Paris. I'm quite happy with the deal.:techman:

Talking about Double Helix, which I'm now reading, what's with the timeline on this book? It's after the Dominion War? Was the timeline retconned later? (Please no post Double Helix spoilers. I'm midway through.;))

Double Helix: Double or Nothing advances several character sub-plots, so yes, it is essential.

as for the timeline, DoN takes place after the Dominion War thanks to the events of the first comic story 'Double Time'.
