Is Christmas still celebrated in the Federation?

Not open for further replies.
I fight fundamentalists of every stripe. Muslims, Christians, atheists, etc. Fundamentalism is the bane on reasoned, secular life.

But then, I take a dim view of -isms in general.

In Europe, christianity is all but dead ...
Wouldn't it be fair to say that "indigenous" Europeans with their below replacement birthrate would be gradually dying if not for the influx of immigrants (and their religions) from elsewhere in the world? Buddhism and Islam are increasing in numbers in Europe faster than atheism. Plus there is a increase in European Catholicism with the new Pope, especially with the young.

The highest birthrates in Europe is among those with religion.

Edit_XYZ, atheist Europeans are being replaced.

:)

Current trends.
Ah, a message favoring the hilarious "War on Christmas" (that most secularists celebrate as well) and displaying rampant Islamaphobia.

Lovely.
You just made PicardSpeedo's point for him...

His point was that discussions on Trek message boards will lead to the downfall of Christianity and Islamic dominance over the entire world? Damn, TBBS is more powerful than I ever imagined.

Rampant Islamaphobia? For an affirmation that must be generously interpreted in order to extract from it hostility toward islam? Really?
A phobia doesn't necessarily have to include hostility. It could just mean fear.

And thinking that Christianity will decline into non-existence and Islam will conquer the entire globe within 300 years seems pretty fearful (not to mention unrealistic) to me.

When was the last time someone screamed 'rampant' Christianophobia; how often does this happen? For affirmations that are direct attacks against christianity and its belief system - nothing veiled or intrepretable?
Practically every day on Fox News and in other conservative and/or Christian media outlets, with a triple helping during the holiday... sorry, I mean CHRISTMAS exclusively and nothing else, season.

As said - the more militant religion ALWAYS wins out. It always converts or tames the population more effectively.
Since the original topic was about Star Trek and The Next Generation (and spin-offs) and not Glenn Beck: The Next Generation, perhaps you or PicardsBananaHammock might care to elaborate on how anything in any of the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th century series indicates that Earth is dominated by Islam in order to make your comments somewhat relevant to the actual topic and not just an "OMG, teh MOSLEMS are coming!" fearmongering tract?

I expect lots of references to Dr. Bashir looking kind of shifty.

You 'fight' US christian fundamentalists. Which have pathetic creationism museums as weapons.

Let's see you fight fundamentalists when you could get stoned for your trouble. When you have to deal with pros at indoctrination, not amateurs.

T'Girl, in Europe, the scientific world-view fought christianity for the last centuries.
Science won; at present, most european christians are christians on paper, barely caring about maintaining and propagating their religious memes. Such is the fate of all 'moderate' religions.

At present, the scientific world-view is fighting religious memes in USA - and winning:

The new pope will not change the number of believers by more than 1 percent or so. And this, temporarily.

Vis a vis islam, PicardSpeedo said: "In all likelihood, the only religion not outlawed by the 24th century will be Islam."
His point is pretty clearly expressed.
It does NOT imply that islam will conquer the entire globe within 300 years (still being legal is a LONG way off from conquering anything).
It's a statement of probability that makes no reference to any emotional state - either hostility or fear.

About FOX - anyone else (that is not an active player in the quarrel) using 'christianophobia'?

As for star trek - in TNG, the future was supposed to be entirely atheistic - as per Rodenberry's dogma.
In DS9 - not even close.
As for the other series - they never treated the issue in any serious manner.

So, the question is - are we talking about a TNG or DS9 Christmas?

And Constitutional Amendments, money, tradition, and history. The fundamentalist Christian Right is insanely powerful in this country.

religion is a disease it causes wars murderer hatred its a good job that religion has been dropped on earth in the Federation.

They also have a fair bit of influence on the world's most powerful military establishment which has drones and nukes and powerful armies and navies and stuff. Not to mention plenty of money and influence with which to export violent, destructive hatred to a Third World which hardly needs more of it.

But ZOMG! The Evil Muslims have rocks! Flee for your livez!!!!!11!!!!!1!!!!

As said - amaterus. And that would be forced interpretations of Constitutional Amendments.
If you want to see the pros at work, read a history book about Europe in the Middle Ages. Or the legal code of some islamic countries - thought crimes and punishments.

They could also secede. But they won't secede or use nukes/etc.
Too used to the good life. Amateurs.

Let me guess - islamophobia, yes?
You have to give it to the pros: they could give lessons to propaganda...that is, public relation firms.

I honestly have no idea how what you're babbling on about connects to the actual topic?

the legal code of some islamic countries - thought crimes and punishments.

Mmm-hmm. Do go on, please.

And here you go - for a more detailed treatment of the subject:

Let me guess - islamophobia, yes?

Your'e pushing pig-ignorant bigotry with a conveniently self-sealing rationale, yes.

And you're inconsistent: by your own criteria, you're pushing 'pig-ignorant bigotry' vis-a-vis christian fundamentalists but are a big defender for islamic fundamentalists.
As said - the pros sure know how to tame people.

Not really...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_atheism#Europe
Hm, in my country the 3 groups are just about evenly divided, theist, agnostic and atheist, spread over all religions...

Do you read your own links before you post them? Aside from containing zero references to "thought crimes", your first link also mentions that

"Many Muslim clerics, religious scholars, and political leaders—including those in the countries where stoning is practiced—have condemned stoning as “un-Islamic”, as it is not explicitly mentioned in the Quran."

:rommie: That's the most ludicrously clumsy attempt at a "NO U!" I've ever seen. But thanks for making it clear how much your posts deserve the contempt with which they were initially treated.

I did read my links. You obviously didn't.

You're talking about yourself. You see, my conclusion is based on arguments you cannot overturn simply because they're correct. Yours is an ad personam.
