Is Anyone still playing Birth of the Federation?

I am not an avid gamer, but BOTF is one that I have played since it first came out. Unfortunately, the original disk is not up to it and kept crashing after so many turns. Since then I have come across mods and revamps, but I don't seem to have a lot of success getting them to work properly. In many of them the Borg doesn't seem to work or the game doesn't save or the computer opponents don't put up much of a fight. Can anyone please recommend where I can get good downloads? My system is a Windows 7

Interesting. I remember vividly rushing out of the office with a peer to buy our copies. We were huge 4x fans and could not wait. Neither of us played it very much at all as we found it pretty difficult to understand/manage. He noted that instead of digging in he could spend the same amount of time learning the latest version of SAP and making more money.

I still have a windows xp laptop and the only reason i have kept it is to play birth of the federation It really really is the best trek game ever made and way ahead of its time in my opinion. If you havnt got it you still still download it from amarda fleet command :) x

I still play. Recently bought a copy of the disc on Amazon amazingly, though it was like $35 US, kinda expensive for such an old game. Used to play the sh*t out of this game way back, on a bad old Compaq computer. I still enjoy it now, with mods that let you play as the Dominion and the Borg sometimes as well. Always wished we'd get a sequel or some sort, but I don't think Microprose exists anymore. It works fine on my laptop now, running the latest windows. Can even use the Mudd cheat commands with no problem.

My son showed me how to get into the settings and turn the Borg on and I have a larger map version that works okay, but its best on medium size chart. The largest map is so big it takes scores of turns before you meet any opponents. I treat it like a long chess game. When it slows down later on in the game, I'm usually listening to a You Tube talkie video and busying myself with other things.

My favorite Star Trek game and probably a top 25 game in general for me. I haven't played it since 2009 though since I lost the CD and other versions run too slow or crash almost immediately.

Star Trek: New Horizons (Stellaris mod) looks amazing though. It's similar in style to BotF, but with about 40 playable races and tons of detail. Not a lot of DQ races, though. Unfortunately my PC isn't advanced enough to play it.

I loved that game. I still have the disc somewhere. haven't played it for a while. We need another good Star Trek Universe resource management game.
